DirecTV buys LifeShield, joining cable rivals in home-security field
    By Joe Flint
    June 4, 2013, 2:53 p.m.

DirecTV is getting into the home security business.

The satellite-TV company has acquired LifeShield Home Security, a Langhorne, Pa., company that operates wireless home security systems.
DirecTV is the latest pay-TV distributor to look for new revenue streams in home security. Cable operators Time Warner Cable and Comcast Corp. have also made moves into the home security sector.

This is for monitoring to be added via Directv recievers that have 2-way audio and in future video another way to monitor illegally what goes on in law abiding peoples houses

Start working on your tin foil hat. It is almost foolproof. Almost.

I would like single access to everything. So an integrated security system that could quickly be access by my DirecTV remote would be right up my alley.

I don’t know about the hidden video spying on two heavyset adults cavorting about in their unmentionables, :sure: but the data collection bit I can buy into. What so many us consumers fail to realize is that large media corps, such as DTV, Dish, Comcast, etc..., acquire as much consumer related data as they can. Not only what we watch; but when we watch, how long we watch, where we watch, why we watch, where we live, how much we make, where we work, what we eat, how we eat, how we choose who we like/love, etc…

There is money in personal data. We often see queries on our personal information as inconsequential. Not necessarly.

Like dtv would spend the money to add cameras and mics to their dtv boxes. Get real on the spying. Data collection is already there. All they are doing is adding another company which will give them even more data and access to more potential customers to try and convert them to dtv instead of cable providers. Who knows.

Not disputing this, but the state you live in, as well as mine, sell our personal data just about everyday.

That 50 bucks for monotiring is small potatoes compared to the money they get for the data they collect from trhe video and audio

were you aware that the people you are watching when you are watching TV are watching you....

The only interesting thing I found out reading this thread is that this forum lacks a DO NOT FEED The Troll smiley.

will need good internet bandwidth for that. As well more CPU power in the DTV boxes.
