It will be a mix of both.

Fox Deportes change is a result of the Fox deal that came to a conclusion a few months ago. D* realizes that non Spanish speaking folks watch that channel, but as a result of that deal the costs would go up for that channel in that package meaning a price increase on Sports Pack for everyone with that service. Those are the tough decisions that are constantly having to be weighed. The other thing to factor in is the need for the right dish. To receive that channel you needed a dish that could see 119 orbital slot and most Sports Pack customers don't have that view.

Speaking of the Fox deal, can we expect to see FMC and NGW in HD soon?

Is Universal HD carrying any Olympic Coverage? Last I heard, they were not.

It was reported a few pages back that Universal Sports is listed as an HD channel in the February Directv magazine. Should we assume that this will be turned on in the next few weeks?

How about Epix? They've had some good boxing action as of late.

They don't. They do however carry the qualification competitions to determine WHO goes to the Olympics. Those qualifications are going on right now, and will continue up to a few weeks before the Olympics.

I'm more interested in the Winter sports.... speed skating in particular, and bobsledding. I might sign up for the Sports Package if Universal switches to HD. For now I have a few streams that look better then the SD on DirecTV for some odd reason.

    - HBO Family West is the only HBO channel left in HD.
    - OuterMax is not yet carried.

Those two could be enough for SR to call it "a mix of both".

Then there is Epix, but DirecTV has stated it has no interest in carrying them. But who knows.... wouldn't be the first time they change their minds.

Then there is Encore, TMC, Sundance, Flix.... but since they are carried by a basic type package (Choice Ultimate) I wouldn't call those "premium".

I'm sure that they will be back. Cable companies carried those channels in 2008, at least mine did. In the summer DirecTV has a little more capacity then in the winter, as more big sports are played in the winter time. And they always have 6 or 7 channels for events like Golf and Tennis tournaments.... so I would very much expect those channels to go live for those three weeks.

    Yes.

It also carries HBO east and west, HBO2 east and west, and some others in both east and west.

The "family" style HBO for the west coast is already carried in SD (I made a typo in my earlier post with HD) and in the current channel lineup of HBO channels carried, is the ONLY HBO channel left in SD. It would make sense to carry that one in HD also, and then all HBO channels are in HD.

Now, there is always discussion about how we west-coasters should just use a DVR and keep quiet about channels in our time zone, but for a family channel that caters a lot of programming to children (and thus different bed times, perhaps school/sports in the weekend) it might be nice to be able to follow the programming in the schedule it was intended.

It's the LAST SD channel left with HBO. So why not complete it, and call it a day..... Of course that might not be the premium "from SR's mix" that YOU would like to see, but looking at the current lineup, it would make the most sense.

Any news from SatelliteRacer is welcome. I'm willing to bet there will be at least 1 more Sports Channel.

That's what I'm looking for. "The sports leader" not having heavyweight championship boxing that is being broadcast on US TV is pretty lame.
