As I see it, since both Comcast (Xfinity), DISH, and U-Verse here offer almost all the channels being discussed in HD, I have to conclude that DirecTv's "sports leader" status with all that entails, is the prime reason we are left to begging for the channels we like to watch in HD. In a perfect world, DirecTv would package ALL its sports channels (Golf, Tennis, MLB, NFL, RSN's, etc) in a much higher priced Sports pak (to which I would subscribe), allowing the package price (which could remain the same minus the sports channels) to be able to pay to get all these missing HD channels. Unfortunately, and I really dont see how its not against some law, the companies can mandate to DirecTv that certain channels MUST be carried in all basic packages, or NONE of them can. While I am a proponent of capitalism, this form of it seems more like extortion to me. Unless something changes, we will either need two providers, or have to choose between Sports and basics.
