Just a heads up on IFC HD. Netflix now has some IFC content like Portlandia in HD. There may be more. I just noticed it the other day. It saddens me too that they've abandoned independent films, but some of the new programming isn't bad. Seems like just about everyone has abandoned their original charter, like the science channel, learning channel, history channel, you name it. They're all mostly reality crap now.

Well, I like Pawn Stars, but yes, I'm a bit irked that most of the shows I loved on History in HD are now largely on H2 where I can't (yet) watch them in HD on D*.

based on comcast new deal the Directv next deal with ESPN may add

ESPN Goal Line HD / ESPN Buzzer Beater HD -part time - shared channel

ESPN 3 HD? -part time -live games only? - full time channel at a later date?

Maybe game plan HD / full court HD or the right to feed in games in HD like how directv tried to get in 2010

Actually the history of an object that Rick and the others explain is why I like the show as much as I do.

This is why I watch it. I could do without Chum's dumbass remarks and acting.... but I guess it appeals to some people, and thus drawing in a larger crowd. But for me it is the history of objects that makes me want to watch it.

The pawn shop actually buys/sells more gold and jewelry than anything else.... reason they don't show THAT on TV is because it isn't interesting. Someone coming in with a 1950's cold war jet helmet, or a 1780's musket, or a 1930's Oldsmobile..... IS interesting.

I learn things from this show. I also watch American Restoration with Rick Dale, which is the guy Rick Harrison usually goes to to get things fixed up, and I like American Pickers, also for the same reason: They find unusual, old objects that tell a history.

As far as the channel though.... I do believe the "History Channel" should be the channel showing historical documentaries, and "H2" should be the channel showing the shows mentioned above.

That said, I want H2 in HD.

    Along with BBC America HD.

Don't hold your breath (LINK). My provider now has 3 Epix HD channels and 1 new SD one. Lots of pretty good stuff on there at the moment like No Strings Attached, True Grit, Jackass 3, Star Trek, Iron Man 2, The Next Three Days and all the Bond films. True, there is a lot of overlap with the other movie channels (which is the main reason DirecTV won't carry it), but Epix is a bargain compared to those.

Yeah - real PITA. I go over to the Epix website once every month or so and add the new movie additions to my Netflix queue.

I sent a note to the DTV president's office telling them that this is not a habit that they want me to get accustomed to. I could start doing the same thing with all the other premium channels. They sent me back some BS about paying for DTV VODs. Yeah: right?!

@JohnDG - the reality is this.... unless they actually start losing customers over new channel and/or HD additions, they will not be motivated to do more then the absolute minimum required. No one is leaving DirecTV just because they can't get Epix, and thus: no real compelling reason to add it with 4+ other premium movie networks, each featuring anywhere from 8 to 12 channels or so.

Same with "basic HD", no one is really leaving DirecTV for it, and those who do are quickly replaced with new subscriber growth.

I got the feeling that 2012 is going to be meager. 15 channels in 2011, 14 SD to HD, and 1 new one. (Shorts HD) - I am thinking 2012 will probably be no more then 10, including new premium HD, new RSN HD, and then some basic HD.

Yes, the Pac-12 is split into six regional pairs. There will be a national network, plus the six regionals.

    http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/6809599/pac-12-launch-national-regional-networks

The new venture is actually the Pac-12 Networks, plural. There will be a national channel along with six regional offerings: Washington, Oregon, Northern California, Southern California, Arizona and Mountain.

The Pac-12 partnered with cable companies Comcast, Cox, Time Warner and Bright House to distribute the networks but wholly owns them.

Hopefully D* will pick up these networks so Oregon fans can finally see all of the missing games that were hijacked by CSNNW, which is not on satellite, or even most of the competing cable companies in the NW.

    Ok, I'll play...

    BBC America
    DIY
    IFC
    Nat Geo Wild
    Investigation Discovery

May I also add that I look forward to the day when all channels are HD and I don't have to post my HD wishlist in this forum! SD just makes my eyes hurt.

Yeah, but what I am wondering is, will directv pick up all the regional ones, or just the national one? And if they pick up the regional ones, will they be on a national beam? Will be interesting to see if they pick up the networks at all to be honest.

Space in the guide? I don't think that would ever be an issue. They can always find space int he guide. And Directv seems more likely to start adding sd channels that are new only in mpeg 4 on a sat at 99 or 103.

Assuming they come to a deal without dropping any channels. I wouldn't bet on anything when it comes to that negotiation. Nothing at all. We could end up with more or less, or nothing at all for a while. Yes, I think Directv is ready to not carry espn to make a point.

I just thought of something, Now that the Pac-12 will be collaborating with the Big Ten, I wonder if a consolidated Pac-12/Big Ten network will be in the works? The Pac-12 network is not off the ground yet and the Big Ten Network has the desired footprint for the most part.

Stopped by at a friend's house on my way home tonight and he showed off all the new HD channels Charter Communications has in our area. Most are what we already have, but I'm actually a bit jealous of his lineup...it included HLN HD, Style HD, OWN HD, E! HD, Epix HD, Oxygen HD, TruTV HD and others we don't have on DirecTV. He said he used to be jealous of MY lineup....now I am of his. :(

Not that I'm aware of but you might see more pac12 games on big ten when they play big ten schools.
