Will those in the position to know be so kind as to tell us if there are more channels coming in the near future (like, say, before the end of May) or is this end of the new basic HD additions for the foreseeable future?

SR doesn't give names or dates any more, just a band playing. So far we got 2 full time channels and a live baseball game only channel, that's hardly "several".

The problem now is that the best channels did go HD in 2010. The capacity to add more channels is lower than it was in 2010 and there are no channels with mass appeal left to add. Everyone has one or two channels that they want in HD now, but the problem is that no single channel is going to please everyone.

I am sure that there are many people among the 30 million DirecTV subscribers who are very happy that E! and TruTV went HD this year, but other than during the NCAA basketball tournament, I never watch TruTV, and I have never watched E!. We are down to the niche market appeal channels left to add.

I love that idea. Please do that for one day for the 2-3 hours while all the matches are played.

Actually, anything more than two qualifies as "several". Most people would probably say "few" for, say, 3-4, but technically "several" would be just as correct. English is that way with a lot of words.

Maybe they are planning to add capacity using the newer encoders that are allowing them to get 6 channels per transponder now, where they did have 5 per transponder. If this is the case, then maybe we can expect "several" additions before D14 is launched.

"LAUNCH MORE HD. LAUNCH MORE HD. LAUNCH MORE HD. WAH. WAH. WAH"

So, DIRECTV then launches more HD. Premiums, HD Xtra Pack, locals, RSNs.

"I don't like that HD. I want more basic HD. MORE BASIC HD. MORE BASIC HD."

DIRECTV then launches more basic HD.

"I don't like those basic HD channels. It has to be MY basic HD channels that I watch. WAH. WAH. WAH"

Hilarity. Of course many of us called it months ago and said this is exactly how people would react.

Let me see if I have this straight...

People are disappointed that DirecTV doesn't carry some of their favorite channels...

They express their desire for DirecTV to add more channels.

DirecTV adds more channels, but it's channels they have no interest in...

Are you saying that should now be happy regardless of that fact?!

He's saying we should appreciate what we have instead of dwelling on what we don't have.

Generally good advice... however, I got from it that no matter how many DirecTV adds, people will still complain.

I'm not sure that's quit fair. This thread is here to discuss the channels we do and don't get so I'm not quite sure what you were expecting.

Please be respectful of of others opinions.

I also appreciate that AMC HD (09.09.2011), truTV HD (03.07.2012), and E! Entertainment Television HD (04.19.2012) are now in the lineup of DirecTV.

And I look forward to even more basic-cable programming getting added in high definition on DirecTV. (Whichever, and whenever, specifically that will happen.)

    :)

And they will. If it is not the HD channel that THEY watch, it isn't good enough.

    "Soon" :D

DirecTV has chosen to be the "Sports Leader" and the "Technology Leader", but no longer the "HD Leader". Disappointing to see how few basic HD channels they have added in the last couple of years, especially compared to the competition.

That being said, they have very little incentive to add more basic HD (with its increased carriage fees) when the subscriber base is still growing and churn is low. After all, they are a business with a responsibility to their stockholders to maximize profits.
