Those of us with premium channels experienced that same frustration. We waited years for the promised Premiums while dozens and dozens of “Basic” HD channels were being added....I’m just sayin’

While a little variety is nice in my opinion, perhaps phases are the way DirecTV has chosen to go...

    And DISH keeps subtracting.

Disney, ESPNU, ESPNNEWS, ABC Family and now AMC.

Lots of people like it. Just because you didn't want it doesn't mean nobody else did.

Not sure if you've heard, but bandwidth is pretty scarce right now, so there probably won't be any bulk basic adds til D14 is up.

well I for one never saw an outweighed cry for it on any of these threads in any quarter since said category closes and re-opens each quarter.

Ive seen the belly aching for AMC when it wasnt in HD...and the current squeams for TCM & BBCA H2 in HD, sometimes DIY and the shopping svcs......So for all those that wanted E!...On behalf of all New Yorkers with satellite service ...I apologize...

HAH..thats my Cole Hamels style of sincere apology!!! I really mean it!!

DirecTV 14 isn't scheduled for launch until early 2014. So maybe June for channels. Though they are able to squeeze another channel on transponders so that can give a little more room.

It was in the Top 10 most wanted channels in the poll last year. It sat at #7, but AMC and several other channels were omitted, so it could have been knocked down a peg or two, but I suspect if it wasn't #8, it would at least remain in the Top 10.

TruTV... the prior addition was at #8...

That is one question I've posed here on many forums in many quarters.. Blah Blah this and blah blah that on bandwidth..Ive asked everyone here and anyone can scan my prior posts will know I've asked...Does D* themselves or the powers that be that oversee the order of the universe really come clean with how much bandwidth is REALLY available??? I remember b4 that last bird launched BET-HD came literally out of nowhere...the polotico's here said oh its because they had a contract and whatever..

I for one dont believe when they say there isnt enough, because always somehow there is a way...While yes im not that thick skinned and non techie...yes a new bird will add more HD. But dont tell me that D* is fully capped and cannot add a single thing more...I think they'll add more mundane HD channels b4 they really get into the meat & potatoes of the world like BBCA and TCM..To bad they cant wow us with another meaningless channel like SHORTS again..They've already used that out!!

True.... but the ratings of E! proves it's a more popular channel than the channels that you do see a "waah waah" for here on DBSTalk.

    Goatee as well...

I wanted a change, though in all fairness, I don't bother shaving every day, so I usually keep a good case of scruffiness happening even now...

I also dropped a good deal of weight too... probably somewhere between 20-30 pounds! A combination of depression and small budget can do wonders for some individuals' weight! ;)

Its not a situation of premium subscribers vs. everyone else. I subscribe to premium channels and want a variety of Basics in HD before anything else and have felt that way for a long time.

I personally subscribe to premiums for the original programming so I don't need all of a given content providers channels to be in HD. With HBO, I just need HBO. With Starz, all I need is Starz. With Showtime, all I need is Showtime.

The rest are just gravy, but were in no way a higher priority to me than BBCA, DIY, HN, H2 Cooking, etc.

I find it interesting that this argument is always framed as "us" vs. "them" when in fact those that are classified as "them" are often times premium subscribers that pay a fortune monthly and want more Basic HD for their money.

No need to squeeze. DirecTV has plenty of room to add more hd channels now without worry of compromising quality.

I don't expect to ever see mass additions again because there are not large groups of channels that could be covered under one contract to be launched all at the same time again.

It all, as usual, comes down to money and getting contracts signed that all parties like. That takes time and is a far slower process than any of us subscribers like.

There wasn't a whole lotta premium bulk. Fully one third of the premiums were added in the first groups of HD channels added in 2007. It was nearly three years before any of the previously announced premiums showed up.

The new premiums have been added over that last two years but usually with other sports and/or basic HD channels so I don't think you can say there have been a lot of "bulk" premium only additions.

Out of the 145 channels (not counting PPV) listed in the first post of the SixtoReport (Link) only 35 are premium. Of those, 11 were added by Oct. 2007. That means over the last four-ish years nearly 100 national HD channels were added while 24 premiums have been added...less than 20% in the last four-ish years. Hardly seems like adding Premiums in bulk. :D
