That's a 50/50 guess at best. Your assuming the dodgers run to time Warner as well as one of the hockey teams and I don't see that happening. Not to mention your also assuming the Sacramento kings don't move down here too which is highly likely after next season.

There's enough to run four (five sometimes) rsns which is what we will have this fall with the PAC 12 channels coming online. The key is the teams are slowly completely deserting all ota broadcasts and wanting every game broadcast.

I think he is thinking fox will make it a part time channel because they will lose to much programming. Many h e said fox will be forced to reduce rates to keep both channels if the dodgers leave as well. I guess we will see.

seeing how FSN SD is a part time simulcast of games from its sister stations Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket. Directv and some cable systems have FSN SD as part time game only channel.

Space on cable systems to fit in all the FSN feeds + Lakers channel may end up with feeds being reshuffled.

I can see FSN WEST (full time) + FSN WEST ALT. With FSN SD being full time on it's own or a mix of ALT / game only feeds based on your area.

Should we write off May and look toward July?

(Last year, HD premiums came in both months.)

If they're going to delete an RSN to make room for the new ones, my guess is it'll be FS Houston since Astros and Rockets are moving to CSN Houston next seasons. The only pro team left on it will be Rangers simulcast from FS Southwest so no need for the duplicate.

But technically no there's no reason to delete any RSN, there's plenty of PPV channel space they could use.

Ok. I wasn't going to watch the Giro, was more interested in the Tour of California.

I wasn't "agreeing" with you, I was wondering how you reached the conclusion that there won't be any more new HD for the rest of the year when a highly trusted DirecTV employee said there will be several, hence the

    Indeed, SateliteRacer wrote this:

"Yes, you are going to get additional HD channels this year. Several in the next couple of months and then more after that."

In the English language, according several ( :D ) dictionary sources on the internet, is "a number that is 3 or more, but less than 5".

    A "couple" is two.

So, SatelliteRacer said in February, that over the next two month (March, April), we would get 3 to 5 new HD channels.

    We got 2.

He also said "more after that".

Now, it is very possible that SatelliteRacer is simply not well versed in English ( :D ), and I would have to say I am neither.... as I had to look up the defintions of "several" and "couple", just to make sure.

It is also possible that the contracts for the other "several" channels that we were supposed to get in March and April simply fell through and did not get finalized.

But from what SatelliteRacer said in February, we should have gotten 3 to 5 HD channels already, and we should now have been in the "more after that" period.

Probably not. FSN still show the Kings and Ducks NHL in Winter, and Angels and Dodgers MLB in summer. On top of that, they show USC and UCLA college sports, and they still have the Clippers NBA.

The contract with the Dodgers isn't up till 2013, so I would be surprised they will downgrade FSN West or Prime Ticket to part-time before then. It would also be dependent on what contracts are in place. Until then, the new RSN's only have the Lakers and the MLS Galaxy. (Chivas USA is still on FSN however).

I would expect the HD count for Los Angeles based RSN's to go from 2 to 4, and it staying that way for a while. At least for sure until the 2014 baseball season starts in March 2014 (the Dodgers contract expires after the 2013 Season in October)

While a dictionary may give precise definition for some terms, there's a lot of latitude with how we mortals use phrases such as:

    A couple
    A few
    Several
    Many
    Some
    Lots
    A sh**load
    Hardly any, etc., etc.

    Soon
    Real soon
    Right now

Different dictionaries will have different definitions. Take “several” for instance. I can’t find “3 or more, but less than 5" but have found:

-Being of a number more than two or three but not many: several miles away.
-An indefinite but small number; some or a few: Several of the workers went home sick.
-More than a few; an indefinite small number: several people objected.
-Being more than two but fewer than many in number or kind: several ways of doing it.
-A number of people or things that is more than two or three, but not many.

These two are from the same definition...
    a : more than one <several please>
b : more than two but fewer than many <moved several inches>

I guess now we need the definition of many. :D

The dictionaries can't give us a single definition. It’s also likely that it’s in flux. One channel may be delayed or another may be added earlier than expected. Dissecting the definition of the words and diagraming the sentences isn’t gonna tell us when and how many.

As long as I get BBCA & DIY in HD I’ll be a happy guy. How many and when doesn't matter that much. :)

You are in luck, then, because the Tour of California is on NBC Sports and is in HD. The downside is that there are about 2 minutes of commercials for every 3 minutes of coverage, and as with all cycling coverage, there are a lot of picture breakups because of trees or hills between the motorcycle cameras and the plane that relays the signal back to the studio. While it is in HD, they still do not have the experience at televising the event that le Tour de France has. I do not think the camera men or the producers at the Tour of California understand that they do not need to focus in on a cyclist who is answering the call of nature.

I didn't noticed anything HD-related. But I noticed something that does interest me: the fact that the official Directv Magazine lists Fox Deportes as part of the SportsPak. I'm sending the particular page to Directv and asking about it, because satracer has told us that Fox Deportes was no longer part of the SportsPak.

Don't forget re sparks are moving to the new channel next year too. :)

One of the keys will be how much PAC 12 games of any kind the fsns will keep with the new PAC channels.

And if the dodgers leave that might coincide with the kings arrival so it should be a very interesting couple of years.
