It wouldn't be so bad if the BBCA "SD" weren't YouTube quality video shot on a feature phone circa 2005. It isn't even "SD" in my opinion. It's a waste to even have it in the guide.

They don't look like the leader to me.

And no, I'm not counting RSNs.

I actually did something yesterday that I haven't done in a long time...checked my local Charter HD line-up. They used to be so far behind D* that it wasn't even funny, so I stopped checking. Now I find that not only are they carrying everything D* has in HD that I'd watch (NBATV being the lone exception), but they carry many of the channels that I wish D* would carry as well, like H2, HLN, G4 and DIY and I think IFC as well. The one glaring omission is BBCA, but at least they're carrying it in some markets which gives me some hope.

My current contract isn't up until next year, but unless D* gets their ish together, I may be switching back to Charter after years of D*, which isn't really something I want to do because of the hassle, but this is getting kind of sad now. I'm also getting tired of glitch after glitch on my HR24. I guess I'm hoping that whatever Charter uses doesn't have as many issues as this box. I'll have to look into that before I make a potential switch. :p

I just deleted a bunch of inappropriate/off topic posts. Keep it clean and on topic or as I previously posted, you post is gone.

I count RSNs as I get them. Not gonna get in that battle again. They have more HD channels available than anyone else. if you choose to not buy them, doesn't mean they don't exist.

I reject the AVS Forum list because they refuse to do full disclosure. It is a flawed list. Show all and let the customer decide. AVS decides *for* you like we are children. Or maybe AVS is biased.

I wonder why the "basic" proponents don't switch to Dish if that's their priority in programming.

"Leader", all depends on what your programming preferences are, as it always does. Sports for me, Dish isn't of interest, as it can't compete with my primary programming preference.

I also don't post at Dish forums to pot-stir  Naysaying is easy to do on 'net forums. I guess some guys feel compelled to do it. We see the same thing at the other satt tv forum, posts removed by mod's, etc, always from the same few stirrers. I recall reading a post by one of the regular naysayers just 4-5 hours after the AMCHD feed went live. Still complaining

Funny, how when we see these deals that D* sub's are getting for ST, or when disputes, such as the Fox carriage issues, get resolved fast, the few naysayers seem to disappear for a while

I do hope that Dish resolves that AMC issue as the majority of Dish posters at these forums are respectful of our forum.

I get all those channels plus my five RSN's. I don't have any of the sports subscriptions or the sports package

The only thing missing from that list are the Sports Package channels...which, for the most part, are all the RSNs.

While the total number of HD channels with the RSNs is larger than the other providers, DIRECTV is lagging behind in the other national HD channels. Personally, I have no problem with the channels I'm missing but some have big problems with it.

I don't have a "big" problem with the missing channels. But variety is the spice of life and I do watch a large variety of programming, yes including sports.. Having said that, I hate watching any SD channels.

Nothing wrong with me wishing and hoping DIRECTV will continue to add BASIC HD channels SOON so I can enjoy my wide range of programming ALL in HD! Regardless of their popularity/viewership...whatever.

Just because I DON'T want to change providers, doesn't mean I'm 100% satisfied with their service. I will say at one time I was 100% satisfied with DIRECTV, but I haven't been able to say that for a few years now. But life goes on...

And no credit for directv having a redzone. They only list NFL. And no count of actual hd channels for MLB, nba, etc. just all count as one though mst systems have 4 or fewer. No mention of the several times a yer bonus channels like the Masters, Wimbledon. No credit for all the European soccer channels. And the .tv channels are listed as wide on Fios. Nope, they are only available with the top tier. They are premium.

The list is biased. I can tell because the makers won't adjust it when inequities or errors are pointed out. That is a clear bias.

Yeah, its quite easy to make change things quite drastically if you simply decide to not count 30+ HD channels that have daily HD programming. Sure, it doesn't help Dish that they don't have RSN's in New York State any more, but that is their choice.

Just because you don't watch them, it doesn't mean they don't exist.

Also, the list is a bit deceiving. Cable providers for instance don't show the entire lineup in every city. Is the number taken from a city thats shows the MOST, or the LEAST HD channels? My city shows about 70 HD channels for instance on TWC, and that list shows 96. That's quite a big 26 channel difference.

Isn't RedZone only available as part of NFL Sunday Ticket Max?

What other inequities are in DIRECTV's lineup?

Why does that matter? It is available and not listed.

Sixto only sees what its coming short notice with the help of technology, and SatelliteRacer hasn't dropped any hints beyond that more HD is coming before the end of the year, which some of us will like, and other will want different options.

The lack of new hints from his side makes me believe we'll have a dry, dry summer..... with some RSN's and Sports related HD after the summer in September or so.

Hey, I tried to maintain an accurate channel list/count/comparasion between DirecTV and Dish Network and was routinely attacked for by members and mods. If folks don't like or trust the one on AVS...well, we had a better alternative.

Yes you did, and you did a darned good job of it, even though I didn't totally agree with some of the methodology.

But while I used to be as much a 'who has more' fan, these days it is more of who has what I want. I watch about 25 channels with some degree of regularity, and currently both services are providing them for the most part. Of course, the current AMC/Dish feud is making waves and that would be a minus on the part of Dish these days.

I like that D* has more of the premium channels in HD that E* does. I don't care which has more sports as both have much more sports than I care about. I like D*s HDDVR presentation much better, but don't like the remote ignoring at all, nor am I enamored of the 1.5 hour guide of D*.

Totally from my own personal preferences, if D* never added another sports channel, I wouldn't care at all. I would like them to add some of the basic channels in HD. And while I'm wishing, I'd like to see a unified to-do list and recording management.

One thing he had was all the data. You could disagree with his conclusions but he had all the information (and was willing to add any not on it) so you could make up your own mind. If you count RSNs as national channels or not (he did), you could decide to count them or not yourself as you had the raw data.

And that is the point. Make a full, comprehensive list and then every customer can decide for themselves if they prefer one provider over another. At least on channel lists. Don't define what counts and what does not for me. Let me decide by giving me all the data. The AVS list decides what counts and excludes information. That is my big beef with it.

Me, I am happy with what I have. Would I enjoy a few more channels that I watch some programming on? Sure. But I get so much of what I do want that I am happy. Pure counts are not the thing. Fios technically has more HD channels than DirecTV if you don't count RSNs and sports but I have Fios in house and would miss several programs in HD if that were my only provider.
