While missing some basic channels for sure, I don't think DIRECTV would characterize them as "too many missing" since as Derek Chang Executive VP of Content Strategy and Development has said they are already pretty much "scrapping the bottom of the barrel" on adding new HD additions.

Unless he just meant what they feel are really worthwhile ones ...

I wouldn't hang on every word Derek Chang stated as being totally representative of what will happen at DirecTV. That was an article about a number of providers supposedly being done with the race to have the most in HD. The industry is never done with technology and certainly not with programming. And Mr. Chang said that, I believe it was in July 2011, before AMC HD and truTV HD joined the programming lineup of DirecTV.

    To add to that...

Few exceptions aside, if they feel it's good enough to carry in SD, they should feel it's good enough to carry in HD.

The SEC "Network" is not a full time channel, it is a pacakge that is carried by a specific station in a local market. It used to be Raycom Sports, and then ESPN got the contract from the SEC to produce the games. They call it the SEC Network, but it comes on local stations, for instance it is on WTTO here in Birmingham on WPCH in Atlanta, etc...

The last band he played in this thread was on 4-4-2012 at 620 pm, which was minutes after he announced the tribune deal. So yes, his last band playing ico was about tribune.

I would like all of those 4:1 mux to be carried over to DirecTV.
    AMC HD (check)
    Fuse HD
    We HD
    IFC HD

They are all broadcast together from AMC Networks uplink center, but DirecTV is only stripping out AMC and feeding that to us. Some cable companies are translating this exact mux to QAM for distribution (Cablevision, Fios and Blue Ridge to name a few).

I don't think the CIA parsed the Kremlin material as thoroughly as we parse SR's comments and icons.

Off-topic, but I just read my local NBC & ABC affiliates (same station) is currently in the process of upgrading their news desk for HD Newscasts... the first TRULY local HD newscasts in my DMA, and it sure would be nice to have (local) ABC in HD.

    Just saying...

Why would he declare Festivus for a channel we've had for 2 years returning after a 4 day carriage dispute?

I personally feel that the post was in response to something OTHER than Tribune stations... but aside from that, I'm not going to look for hidden meanings.

It's not the first time we've gotten the ROCK BAND smiley (hopefully, it won't be the last either), so we can somewhat safely assume that the appearance is unrelated to the content of said channel.

    lo que serĂ¡, serĂ¡...

He didn't call it a festivus, it was simply an emocon. He actually calls things a festivus when we get new channels. Not everything is something other than the obvious.

He said "several" are coming this year. WGNA doesn't count since we've had it for a long time already.

    Wow. Just wow.

I must have missed the part where he said he will never make a post in this thread unless it's for new content coming soon only, and that he can't celebrate a channel coming back on after being lost for a few days. Darn fine print...

Getting back a bunch of strechovisioned off-network reruns and the occasional Cubs game isn't a call for celebration if you ask me.

Sat Racer also said some people would be happy and some wouldn't.
    Right now I'm guardedly optimistic.

How about all the locals that came back too, including a couple abc and fox stations.

You are not expected to be happy for all occasions. I don't expect you to send congrats for my friend who got married yesterday, but that wouldn't be an excuse to tell me I'm not allowed to mention it.

Great for those affected. Though there are several solutions for missing locals (antennas, online downloads, on demand, visiting a friend or relative who has another service, getting another service yourself, etc. etc.)
