I don't know if that still applies. It used to be the 800s and 900s for locals (before mapping to same over-the-air channel numbers).

there are also some RSN's that may get added but how much space has been saved for them?
    CSN Philly HD
TCN Philly (full time? game only HD?) (dead if fox can get Philadelphia Phillies and 76ers?)
FS Philly likely if there is one.
    CSNNW HD
    CSS HD
    CSN Houston HD
    dodgers channel HD

Cubs maybe moving to there own channel, wgn cubs games moving to CLTV / wgn america local feed?, WGN sports channel, CSN Chicago need to use there overflow feeds alot more may happen as well.

Will DT ever upgrade FS Wisconsin to full time? Why are some RSN's part time and not full time??

Being a news junkie rather than a sports junkie (I dropped all sports programming when they hit me with the extra sports fees), I'd like News Mix to go HD as well, and also want CNNI, C-SPAN & C-SPAN2 in HD. Yes, I know the talking-heads-don't-need-HD argument, but I also remember being perfectly happy listening to Chick Hearn and Laker radio back in the day. To each their own.

They are subregions of other RSNs. On cable the 24/7 versions are created on the fly at the headend by switching between the main feed (i.e. FS Midwest) and the alternates (i.e. FS Kansas City or FS Indiana) whenever a game for the subregion is on or to the national base feed whenever the main feed has a game that isn't available in the subregion, so the cable viewers get it all on the same channel and don't see any blackout messages.

    Great find on MavTV!

As far as older recievers not being able to use single / double digit channel numbers, maybe the whole master program guide shutoff that is going on now will eliminate the need for locals mapped to 900's (if still applicable today). Once MPG is shut off, maybe this frees up space?

Talking heads work fine in HD because the action and on screen movement is minimum. Therefore you can really squeeze something like CSPAN'S HD, The Blaze HD, NASA HD, and even shopping networks down to 3.5 - 4.5mbps in 720p. Blue Ridge Cable does overcompress The Blaze HD, but it still looks clearer than the SD version.

If you get some channels with low screen movement around 4mbps in mpeg4 720p, it wouldn't be *that* much of a hit to the limited bandwidth. HD now is from 6 - 8 Mbps in mpeg4, so on the low end shaving 2 Mbps thanks to low screen movement and down converting to 720p or maybe even 1024x720 would still look better than the SD they have now.

I would like to see CSS and CSS HD added. CSS (Comcast / Charter Sports Southeast) is pretty much the CSN in the southeast. They show many college football / basketball games, local minor league baseball, MLL games, WNBA games, and recently they've shown a handful of Atlanta Braves spring training games. It's not a channel that I really need, but I'm sure there are plenty of people in my area that would like it.

    From the website @ http://www.mavtv.com/about-us/the-mavtv-story.html :

MAVTV was founded in 2002 by four former Showtime Networks executives and was originally geared towards a male dominated audience. In 2011, MAVTV was purchased by Lucas Oil Products, an automotive lubricant manufacturer with a history in television production.

Having grown their company from a single product company into an international powerhouse in the lubricant and motorsports industries, Lucas Oil was eager to employ similar strategies to transform MAVTV into a premier cable network

Lucas envisioned a broader scoped network, geared towards the modern American family with significant enhancements to the network including but not limited to; investments in programming, updated on-air look, and increased production quality, all to add more value to the consumer experience.

MAVTV continues to grow daily and will never stop its mission to deliver the highest quality HD programming possible!

You would assume HD, but If SD, then why bother.

    Wow ...

Shows how much I've been keeping up with stuff in this area.

I always thought MAVTV was Mark Cuban's sports channel (RSN) for his Dallas Mavericks. :rolling:

They get MAVTV and not Pac 12 Network? I thought D* wasn't going to get any new sports channels, and any new sports channels D* wanted to be in the sports pack? I guess they got a good deal on it.

    Good theory!

DogTV is coming. Let's not forget that.

These SD (but not HD) don't take up too much transponder space ... yes or no?

It's too bad, given the SD (but not HD), we never received from DirecTV the complete suite of the Viacom music-video programmers from the brands of MTV, VH1, BET, and CMT. I'd prefer those. But I guess DirecTV either wasn't interested or chose to nickel-and-dime. (Same goes with Dish Network. It's not just DirecTV. Another example of that is with my area Comcast. It still doesn't carry Boomerang. And we have had it, from DirecTV, since 2000! In fact, neither does areas serviced by Bright House Networks. That is definitely being cheap.)

I thought D* was running out of SD space, which is the reason why the news mix channel went away?

As far as the HD Viacom channels go, again space, I thought HD space was also at a limit? Maybe those will come with D14? Unless they start using more transponders with 6 channels?

I hope many more HD channels come with D14.
