Here is the D12 release. They discuss capacity.

In terms of DTV representatives saying what was coming

    A) None of it is official nor are they in an official role
    B) Strategies change, Competition Changes

I recall people here getting all wound up about HBO content coming on one of the satellites because DTV said so. Problem is, HBO decided at the last minute that wasn't the case and the two sides were in a pissing match for 2 years. Things change, events change, calendars change, the competitions changes, the environment changes. This is reality.

Hell, look at HBO GO. DTC launches it on mobile apps and Time Warner doesn't have it. Think about it. Think about WHO OWNS HBO and WHO OWNS TIME WARNER CABLE and how they couldn't get a deal within their own companies to carry that but DTV did.

These are the realities in life and business. One cannot predict the future

I don't for one minute think the DTV's representatives here are not present in some forth of official capacity.
I would not be surprised if the punishment for being late to a meeting was finding out that they had been assigned to be the liaison duty to the TV nerds, including myself, who inhabit these forums.
I don't blame them for not wavering from the DTV company line, since as DTV employees that is their duty and if I derived my income I would do myself.
I do find it somewhat insulting that they couch their information in childish get out your Captain Midnight decoder ring statements. However I am sure it supplies them with much enjoyment watching many people parse every word and statement for hidden meanings.
Frankly knowing a week in advance the ShortsHD is coming has limited benefit, at least for me
Speaking of ShortsHD, could there be a stupider, yes stupider way of making a channel worthless in the age of the DVR, then not including any meaningful guide data as to actor, premise plot etc.

    A QUESTION FOR SATELLITE RACER;

SR, can you tell us how many slots are left for HD channels. Is it 13 or 33? Or some other number?

    Thanks,

    Mike

We have to keep in mind that some transponders are now going to be used to do the VOD for people without internet access known as Push. While this is a money maker for D*, it reduces the available transponders available for new hd.

Sorry, not here in an official capacity. Maybe others are, I am certainly not.

Also makes walking away from here very easy for me because that role isn't official. I've been contemplating it more and more the last few weeks. Feels like I'm becoming more of a lightning rod which wasn't the intent. Built some great relationships over the years here, have been able to take some legitimate concerns here and bring them to the powers to be to make DIRECTV better...that's the idea. Ironically, been pitching additional basic HD channels as well. We do read and listen to concerns here, I hope you understand this as we really do.

Perhaps moving forward the DIRECTV Facebook page and DIRECTV.com will have to be the interaction. That is their official capacity anyway and then there will be no blurring of the lines.

We were trying to have some fun, especially since we're not here in an official capacity. Childish...certainly not the intent, but it seemed a number of people enjoyed the humor. Television is entertainment and one attempts to have a bit of fun in an entertaining way. That was the intent.

Shorts HD has been a channel that has been in the works for several years. Shorts provides their programming guide info a bit differently than others, but we've asked them if they can provide more meta data into their guide info. Hope to have that change coming in the future but it will be up to them ultimately in terms of what is provided.

Happy Mothers Day all. I'm taking my wife and kids out now for the day.

    And what were their reactions?
And what reasons would those be?

I think SR just gave a clue for where the discussion should be taken ...

If everyone who posts here were to start posting on the Official Facebook page, would DIRECTV post an Official Response on the Official Facebook page? (Better yet, would that Official Response be more meaningful than the canned responses CSRs send when they respond to inquiries about plans for new HD channels?)

It might be worth pursuing just to see what, if anything, changes... moving the "discussion" from a fan forum to the official customer-presence site....

And to your wife and family as well. Hope you all have/had a great day!

Not the way I took it at all.

My take on the comment: Facebook and directv.com will always be what they are now and that won't change. SR attempted to give more information here, but was often met with rude and whiny members that always wanted more, so it's probably not worth taking part here any longer.

Bingo. SR was doing it on his own within parameters of his job. You could tell he was having fun. I don't think he is anymore.

I can't blame him after seeing people have mental breakdowns over something being called a Festivus. Plus, he's bombarded with questions we know he's not at liberty to say.

I think we're all just a little frustrated because we all got our hopes up anticipating even more HD, including more basic HD, that other providers have been adding, for almost two years, and now it sounds like that may not happen.

I'm sure some of you can understand our disappointment.

Sure. It is the way some people show the disappointment sometimes.

It is not life or death. Good versus evil. Right versus wrong. Whiner versus fanboy.

No reason for it to be nasty but anytime anyone offers an explanation or looks at both sides, they get called a fanboy.

Yes, there are devout directv defenders and there are folks who just want and don't want to hear anything but why does anyone have to start namecalling. And jumping all over the guy who is just passing on information as a service.

It is too ugly around here.

I agree with you. Maybe we need a break then? I'm not saying close the thread, but maybe a cooling off period for a bit?

In the meantime I'm going out to see my mommy. :D

Good thoughts. Tell her happy mothers day from some guy on a message board about tv. That should make her proud of her parenting skills ;)

Mine passed away 10 years ago this summer. I am honoring her in my own way today.

Don't go SR! A number of us appreciate your presence on the forum and do understand the limitations of what information you can provide. Don't let a few bad apples cause you to walk away.

Hope you have/had a wonderful day with your family and thanks for what you do.
