Have you been … anticipating?
Any anticipating of national HD channels (of any kind)?
I never intend to come off like a jackass. But after observing that list, I can see why D* is focusing on Premiums as a priority for HD additions.
There is probably like 10-15 of those listed that anyone watches with any degree of regularity. But none of them warrant HD addition before the premium channels.
If I was a premium subscriber, I would have definitely appreciated the HBO, Cinemax, etc., for the HD additions. As I understand, some has been waiting for quite a few years now. In my case, I previously chose not to subscribe to HBO because of the previous non-carriage of HBO Comedy, thus I am elated that it will be carried as well as in HD. On another hand, one can't justify subscribing to Cinemax without having a sufficient discount because of the comparatively anemic multiplex offering, thus to me it makes sense to beef it up with more Cinemax channels in HD.
Not to go slightly off topic, but would it be worthwhile for the Premium Movie channels to go HD only just so there would be capacity freed up for additional HD channels elsewhere? Just a thought.
72,000 on monday:
There's a few channels I watch that are not yet offered in HD on D*. I anticipate that one day they will be, and that will be nice.
In the meantime, life is still pretty good. Far too good to be having a conniption over Mad Men or Dr. Who.
What are those "few channels … not yet offered in HD" that you "anticipate" will come to DirecTV "one day"?
Yes, though now is not quite the time. I'm expecting that will be part of the end phase of SD--which I don't expect for another 5 to 10 years.
Before that, I expect we'll see the end of new MPEG2 only SD receivers. Perhaps even the end of SD only receivers. Then we'll see the carrots and sticks to push people away from MPEG2.
With 30 million (or more?) SD receivers out there, it's not a quick switch.
We've just had a thread from someone who reasonably wants to activate an old receiver that doesn't have an RID, just an access card id. DIRECTV has to migrate slowly or waste lots of money in equipment that is already still out there.
All of them, actually.
The one's I watch on occasion are truTV, IFC, E! and sometimes REELZ but these are channels I watch only for a couple of shows...and some of those, especially on truTV, revolve around videos and clips that are not in HD (e.g. World's Dumbest, World's Wildest, It Only Hurts When I Laugh). Oh sure, someday I'll be getting World's Dumbest in glorious HD so clear you can count Danny Bonaduce's nose hairs but I'm enjoying it as it is today. I'm content with my content...sue me.
The vast majority of what I watch is already offered in HD.
I never said two channels would “fix it”. I said it would “speak volumes”.
The two channels I would welcome are Nat Geo Wild HD and DIYHD.
The same way naysayers know the truth.
Other than SR, we’re all peeing in the wind with our guess.
Me too! They may be the bottom of some people's barrel but they would be the icing on my cake. Especially TCM.
and AMC TRUtv E! BBC etc....will continue to lose viewers as like myself I've blocked all SD channels. The picture is so bad it hurts my eyes.
Should have read my warning label.
TCM HD and BBC America HD please
So do we know that HBO Comedy, Latino, MoreMax, and 2 other Cinemax channels are for sure being added next week the 25th?
We can have 20 or so HD premium channels (HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Showtime) all showing the same sort of new and slightly older movies but not one HD channel like Turner Classic Movies or Fox Movie Channel? My first choice is TCM but I'd settle for Fox Movies. AMC HD is not on my wish list at all, what with commercials, film cutting, those obnoxious popups, and the overall quality of the film library on AMC is very low in my opinion.
Give me TCM and/or FMC.
Yes, 3 sources have confirmed this (Satelliteracer, Satellite Direct Magazine June issue and Sixto's test data). The 2 other Max channels are ActionMax and ThrillerMax.
Perhaps a visit to a optometrist is in order.
What Cinemax channels are being added in June?
The only thing I ever saw was 'later'. I don't know if anyone in authority said June.

No, but shortsightedness can (and often will) effect profitability.
