Where I grew up, field hockey was big, too, but it was only played by girls.
Because of where I grew up/live, I didn't even know it existed until I was in my late teens.
Aside from a few minor sports (basketball, baseball, Soccer, Golf, etc.), the focus is on American "football."
It's bigger than math and spelling here... or history, or science, or... well, it's BIG!!
The Shadow knows......<hilarious laughter>
Back to anticipating HD. Other than sports channels (which I like), any rumors as to which basic HD may be coming in the next few months? Would like to see HLN,TVLAND,LMN,ID,FMC(if available), or possibly more Encore movie channels.
....waiting on the first person to scream that Encore is NOT basic!!!
Just tell them you have Shorts HD.
I'm sure that'll make their jaws drop.
Thats a good one!
Honestly...as happy as I am for everyone with all the current HD channels...even when I don't watch some of them myself....
I suspect there is really a short list of remaining realistic HD channels to add, if ratings are any measurement of what drives those choices.
DIY, Bloomberg, HLN, GSN, LMN, and HGTV perhaps some day.
There's been lots of discussion here about the fact that there are more SD DirecTV receivers out there than HD STBs. Fair enough...
Given the amount of bandwidth currently involved, the fact that HD customers are still the minority, as well as economic situations, I completely understand WHY DirecTV is not rushing out to get all HD simulcasts... but eventually, there will come a point where where DirecTV having a bunch of SD channels would just look bad for DirecTV. To put it bluntly, ANY channel in DirecTV's lineup SHOULD be HD if HD is available. Maybe not today, but the day is coming.
So I totally disagree with your statement above. At this point in time, DirecTV SHOULD pick and choose what channels to upgrade now or wait until some future date... but there's a considerable list of channels that need to be upgraded at some point.
The plus side is that HGTV looks HD like on DirecTV already!
That being said... and I'm not just talking about my personal likes, but really?! Bloomberg?!?! Over TV Land, H2, Cooking, Fox Movie Channel, Encore suite channels, etc?!?! REALLY?!?! :eek2:
HGTV has been in HD for quite some time.
I still wonder how many of those SD STB's are hooked up to HDTV's.
 Really?
You noticed that one in there huh?
I guess I made my point about a short list.
I know of quite a few personally, but I'm sure my observations are not the average.
bars, Restaurants and hotels that have SD cabling and switchers in place
Hotels yea. Bars are changing quickly. Not sure what bar I've been in in the last year that didn't have HD.
Since the old Damon's closed here, none.
95% of the channels we watch are already in HD and remaining 5% wouldn't make a lot of difference in HD. That being said, we would miss the SD channels here in Florida as when it rains (and it DOES RAIN in Florida) we switch from the HD channel to the SD channel. Once in-a-while the rain messes up a recording or two but that is all and most of them can be repeated on one of the internet sites.
I bet that would change if D* stopped charging $10 for HD access.
