Let me be more clear, test data could show up later this week. No need to close the thread yet.
It doesn't matter if channels are coming or not. The thread needs to stay open for discussion.
I don't know why you think the thread should be closed early, but AWESOME post, man!!!
I enjoyed it thoroughly...
First, this thread will remain open, end of discussion.
Second, let's get back to the topic of HD channels and not what people will or will not post.
Here is another one I just got today that D* could add.... Comcast Sports South HD (SEC college Football)
Im pretty new to all of this. How does anyone know what in test mode anyway?
Sixto has a setup that allows him to grab guide data from the satelites and then he and a couple others go though it and let us know what they see.
sabrewulf, this thread by Sixto is what you want to follow to find out what's coming up.
Okay thank ya very much
You're welcome, sabrewulf. I'm glad you joined DBSTalk.
This thread is the other great Sixto informational thread. In fact, it's the only thread on DBSTalk which I get an email notification when there is a new post. It tells when a new channel goes live. In other words, it says when it's time to stop anticipating and start Festivus!
I pretty much gave up on DirecTV ever adding DIY-HD, and just now noticed it had been added! Very happy! Thanks D*!
We have a CBC transmitter 20 miles from here, coming out of Kingston, Ontario. Time Warner carries it, as well as the CTV affiliate, about 65 miles away. I wish Directv would match this, but they won't.
Tho, generally Sixto or someone else will flag this thread pretty quickly if something pops up in the other thread.
Tho when I say "this thread" I mean, "or its natural successor", as they are chopped off quarterly, and a new one started, to make them less unwieldy in size.
And. . . :welcome_s to sabrewulf.
I think the satellite providers have different restrictions. I'm not sure they legally can carry it even just locally.
A quarter is a quarter. We can still anticipate HD to happen in next quarter in this quarter's topic
It would also help if you are searching for something later on. Patience, grasshopper, patience.
To conclude the 3d quarter, we have seen the following HD additions in 2012:
Ch. 246 - TruTV
Ch. 235 - E!
Ch. 256 - TCM
Ch. 264 - BBC America
Ch. 283 - Nat Geo Wild
Ch. 289 - Disney Junior
Ch. 620 - BeIN Sports
Ch. 305 - iON
Ch. 230 - DIY Network
"Basic" Channels in blue.
Sports Pack Channels in green.
All in all we can definitely say that so far.... 2012 was all about basics. We all though it was going to be about sports. Now the 4th quarter of 2012 might still turn out to be all about sports with several RSN's in negotiation, and the stand-off with PAC12.... but those who were wanting basic HD, must be pleased so far.
Given we started the year thinking there was little/no spare bandwidth for new adds outside of sports, that looks like a pretty good year to me. Personally, my top 3 wants were addressed, two of which also pleased my wife, so I'm pretty happy with 2012 in D*-land.
Some people believed that to be the case, but not everyone. It was guesswork.
Of course it was guesswork. Were you expecting 8 basics added this year?
It was fairly accurate guesswork. What was not known was that DirecTV was working on squeezing more out of what was already there. New encoding techniques/hardware was in the works. If they did not do that, the guesswork was still on the money.
