    Not sure of the technical reasons why;

But for over a week now on the HR34 anyway, by highlighting and selecting any upcoming (not present) show on TCM in the guide and then selecting "View Upcoming" brings up both the SD TCM and "*TCM-HD" versions which you can then record as well as add the channel to your Quick Tune menu when it actually starts recording for future recall.

All the manpower was going to be tied up with taking Viacom down. ;)

Seriously, they did not test for 2.5 weeks. It has just been 2.5 weeks since they put the test channel up. I still am sure it was scheduling of people through July which is the biggest vacation month of the year besides maybe December.

    More like.

"hey, joe, that new encoder for the TCM expansion arrived early and I gotta get it off the loading dock."

"alright then, we'll just plug it in. Then it will be on or July 19."

Seriously, what kind of jobs do you folks have that think things always happen in the same amount of time and the same way each and every time and there is no down time for something?

While I'm a little surprised by the fact that it went up in testing that long before it went live, due to the fact that it usually doesn't happen that way (local channels can be in test for considerably longer of course), I suspect it's like most people seem to think; the contract had a start date, and they went ahead and uplinked it for testing.

As those with HR34s can tell you, the channel looks very good, and is an awesome addition to DirecTV's lineup!

I am excited about it. Lots of great unknown movies on TCM. One of the few SD channels I watch.

I'm really hoping that you're stating the caricature of Jerry Stiller looks British, because otherwise, :eek2:

BTW... for those wondering, it's been a while since a Festivus meant more than one channel. I'm proud to say that this is the first time since AMC where the channel addition actually excited me, so it's kind of a Festivus for me, but as a general rule, I don't really think a Festivus really applies to a one channel addition.

Then again, perhaps we can all look at it like we're the unpopular family member begrudgingly invited to Festivus dinner. :D

I originally thought he looked like Rupert but I would not read anything into the ethnicity of the festivus carrier.

    I do.

Maybe another holiday coming up soon but that was tomorrow. Satracer has not distinguished single channel as non-festivus in the past that I recall.

I have a treat for this board. Pay particular attention to what Comcast is removing in its Philadelphia systems.

If I were D* and am aware of this, I would go balls to the wall to get CSN Philly before the end of August.

I saw that. Really crappy premium package. Doubt I will ever return to Comcast.

When I saw the coat, my first thought was London Fog. Actually didn't think of Jerry Stiller.

I know what you're referring to, but my first thought was, "Military History Channel is sports entertainment"?

The channels still exist, but they are now VOD only. Basically they are putting those Premiums as an on demand. DTV doesn't have that luxury since they don't have that many connected boxes.

VOD of HBO does not cover all their movies they show. Plus many people still just turn on the tv and watch what is on.

I'll bet people will cancel or want their cost lowered. We are not an on demand nation yet.

    It is a mistake.

I wonder if TCM is being put up, now that they have some extra bandwidth, because Viacom is not being shown. Anyway, always happy to see some more HD movie services. Only have to wonder, what took so long? If we could just get the FOX Movie channel in HD, all would be good for now. Viacom who?

No. Going up as planned, nothing to do with Viacom.
