You do know there's more on BBCA than "Top Gear" and "Doctor Who", do you not?! :p

While BBCA offers some GREAT sci-fi programming, there's multiple other genres as well.

Indeed, while there are some differences between the versions on BBCA and the originals (leave the news in, please!), it's still a great show. The issue has been that the video quality of the SD feed is so bad that it spoils the excellent photography.

...and issue that is soon to end!

Yeah.... I think they figured that since 90% of that news is directed towards the British (and continental Europe) market, it isn't of much interest to Americans. It's really nice that the new Renault Clio has hit the market for 8,995 English Pounds, but no one exports those to the U.S. (Renault stopped selling to the American market in the 80ies I think.)

But yes, it is still a great show. It's not even all about the cars, its about the people who bring it and all the shenanigans they get in to. :D

The episodes they have done in the U.S. - especially the one in the South - are thoroughly entertaining. The Vietnam episode was one of their best.

(BTW, every so often Jeremy likes to hit below the belt when it comes to Americans, who in his opinion cannot make decent cars. If you are easily offended by criticism towards the United States (mostly stereotypical and in relation to cars), you may not want to watch certain episodes.)

Sure, I know very well what they offer and Top Gear is all I want. Nothing unusual here, I watch 1 or 2 programs per channel , even from premiums like HBO and SHO. My DVRs are already full and already have everything I really watch in HD. I'm a happy camper!

I understand. Your statement just made it seem like that's all people want it for.

I've said it before, but BBCA is one of the best channels for scif-i outside of Syfy, and in some ways, maybe better.

However, they have some great dramas too.

There were three, four, or five BBC shows nominated for Emmy's this year. Two or three of them are on other channels, but it just shows you what programming they are capable of having on that channel.

Another plus (sometimes negative) is that the seasons are shorter than American series, so you can follow them without committing as much time as you would on some other stations.

Outside of the premiums (including the HD Extra package), how many channels have VOD in HD?!

WOW!! Even I was thinking it was more than that...

The fourth one is understandable given that it's an HD only channel.

Kind of my point though. I keep hopping everyone starts adding more, and I am hoping it starts with all new Hi Definition channels turned on, but we will see.

Perhaps. History writing by anyone has never really been objective. Also maybe I'm not really clear on what you're terming "reality TV".

Interestingly, a lot of DirecTV's SD VOD isn't so bad. I just missed a recording of Alphas and got the SD VOD and zoomed it up. Not great but watchable. Far better than the SD itself.

There is all sorts of reality TV.

There is the variety Jersey Shore, Survivor, the Khardassians (or however you spell that) which really is mostly scripted and pre-thought of, they are just letting scenarios play out. Or something is going to happen in real life, and they built a script around it.

There is things like Pawn Stars, which is partly scripted (things like "I can race better than you", followed by a race at a local kart hall), and partly because of people that participate in the show by just being there/showing up. But obviously that is also partly scripted, that is.... the items get chosen, the people must want to participate, etc.

Then there is the American Idol type variety, which has a lot of user interaction, such as voting. Other types are purely judge only, or only have a voting round in the final.

Then there is COPS. I'd call this one a true reality show, as it follows cops as they are doing their rounds, and nothing is scripted. Faces of suspects are often blurred out ,etc.

Shows like Mythbusters are in a category of their own, but I would not actually call that reality TV at all, it is merely just a entertainment show with a scientific approach where they test theories and myths.

But I think this is probably best discussed in TV Shows in a separate thread, not here. Let's just close with that everyone's perception of what is "reality" is different.

I watched an episode of "The Soul Man" from TV Land VOD after the Viacom spat because I'm used to watching it in SD.

If I had to watch a minute or two of something in SD, I would, but I'm not watching an hour show like "Alphas" in SD.

Meh, after watching the season premiere of Warehouse 13 in "HD" the SD for Alphas wasn't so bad.
