The calendar has a Q4, but new additions by DirecTV during past calendar Q4 have been very few. I do not expect much, if anything, before February 2014, and very few additions before July, 2014.

So Style will be rebranded to Esquire on sept 23, not G4. Will we get it in HD? Anyone have any thoughts?

I wonder if DTV is waiting for the EI baseball season to end in order to add a couple of HD channels. If all transpires as scheduled, with the new satellite, by the time NFL ST season rolls around they should have the extra bandwidth for the 2014 football schedule.

Most (not all) of the EI channels are still on the air as they are RSNs. I'd bet that more hockey and nba channels are "extra" channels.

Still, I don't see directv counting its chickens before they hatch. I'm sure they will wait for the new satellite for a lot of channels.

I expect that, barring a catastrophic failure of one of the satellites, between 3Q 2014 and 4Q2016, all remaining SD channels that are available in HD will be added in HD. On the other hand, I do not expect DirecTV to do much more before D14 is parked in orbit and turned over to DirecTV. Satellites have been lost on launch before, and if that happens, the delay to get a replacement is very long. It is not like the satellites are sitting around on the shelf waiting to be launched.

    Regarding style > esquire http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/09/09/style-to-become-esquire-network/

I don't think we will see it in HD. It could even be dropped by DirecTV, who knows. G4 was supposed to turn into Esquire and DirecTV dropped G4, so anything could happen.

There's a discrimination already with NBC/Comcast owned networks on DirecTV. Not just Style. Oxygen is not HD either. G4 and CSN Philly aren't even on DirecTV. There could be some bad blood since Comcast is a big rival for DirecTV being the largest cable company in the US. Even Comcasts commercials put down DirecTV in the past.

They may hate each other, so it will be interesting to see what happens when the current carried channels are up for contract renewal. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Viacom-esque standoff.

Yet we just got access to NBC Live Extra as well as Premier League Extra time in August. DirecTV doesn't have to have everything a provider offers lest their relationship be described as problematic or discriminatory.

the only missing the CSN's are the high cost ones / have coverage area issues.

CSN Houston had a deal ready to go but the Astros who have a really big team area wanted more / be in basic for the FULL team area (other MLB teams have there outer rings in higher levels / sports pack).

    CSNNW High cost.

CSN Philly and TCN Philly NOW high cost? also only CSN where systems have to buy 2 channels to get the over flow games.

As for the other CSN's a lot of them are team owned and I don't think the teams will take Comcast pulling them off of directv.

You're missing the point by cypherx. I actually posted about this. And the "NBC [Sports] Live Extra" is not comparable.

Full service programmers Style Network, Oxygen, PBS Kids Sprout, TV One, and Universal Sports have available HD. None of them are getting carried in high def by DirecTV. DirecTV hasn't added the high definition of a Comcast/NBCUniversal programming brand since bringing in E! Entertainment Television HD in April 2012.

At this point, before DirecTV brings in any more HD of programming brands from Comcast/NBCUniversal, the women's channel which will likely get added is We TV HD. The kids' channel which will be added is The Hub HD. Fuse HD and MTV2 HD will come in before TV One HD. But I will cut DirecTV/Comcast some slack with Universal Sports HD, because even Comcast, nationwide, apparently doesn't carry even the standard def of Universal Sports. (If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. It's not available in the Michigan system. And Comcast franchises are dominant in this Top 10 populous state.)

If there is not a problem between DirecTV and Comcast … it may be that the people at DirecTV became derailed.

Only at night. They have original kids' shows in the daytime too. It's pretty much the same as Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite.

Just heard that fios is rolling out Universal Sports HD. That is one of the few I would be interested in. Not a huge deal but adding it would be nice.

TWC added it in many markets over Labor Day weekend. That is the only network not yet in HD that I really care about. There are a few others that would be nice to have, but Universal Sports is the only one I watch more than occaisonally.
