also for the record incase anyone cares...Time Warner broke out the C-SPAN channels all 3 of them in HD...so they do exist and do now beam in HD..it was recently added to the tier...lets see which satellite company adds em 1st

however i noticed their programming at time of this post is pillar boxed..maybe the live floor sessions will be in HD

I think we're coming up on the One Year Anniversary of the debut of DTV's national commercials announcing "SOON CAPACITY FOR OVER 200 HD CHANNELS !!!"... Right before Labor Day last year I remember seeing the first one with the big red block letters and all the exciting copy and graphics...And they kept airing for over 8 months non-stop....

Soon thereafter (Oct. 2009) we got bombarded in the mail with flyers saying the same thing and full-page ads in the local papers, plus radio, too... All of us here could not wait for D12 to launch in December... We all followed Sixto and LameLefty as they guided us through every detail of rocket science, space physics (?), and the arid terrains of Borat Country (Kazakstan) where D12 would launch...

Now, a year later, we will "celebrate" DTV's Big 2009 Advertising Announcement One Year Anniversary by wistfully looking over DISH's current HD line-up... Cheers !!!

This is a channel where it almost makes no sense to go HD. Almost all of its shows are old and not even in high def and are not going to be reworked so they'll show in HD.

Upconverted SD on a HD channel > any SD channel

Ah yes...the marketing tease all providers use...

Then again....D12 was not even launched until the end of December, and not active until several months thereafter...so we're actually only about 5 months into its active availability... about 30 new HD channels added so far...more to come we know.... the year is still young.

Ironically....the Dish folks are already complaining about having too many commercials on AMC HD that just started there just a day ago....guess making folks happy is a tough business...

But, any SD channel upconverted to HD has sharper and crisper video than it's SD channel. Easier on the eyes.:new_Eyecr

The key word there is capacity. They were true to their word. The capacity is there. They just havn't used all of the capacity yet.

True, the old shows will be in SD still, but all of the new shows will be in HD.

Does it costs anything for providers to carry these?

I was thinking along those same lines. We used to watch Family Feud and MAtch Game reruns on GSN and I remember the studio set pieces were looking pretty dirty and tattered even in SD.

It will be good for their newer stuff to be in HD though and I guess the quality of the old stuff can't be any worse than it is now.

For me it shouldn't be zoomed to fit the screen IF that cuts off any of the actual picture. I love HD, but I will watch SD OAR before I will watch HD foolscreen. It drives me crazy to see stretched video on a widescreen TV. I can deal with pillar-boxes and even window-boxes if it means I see the program in it's attended aspect ratio.

doesn't matter how many partners you bring..if D* wants to play the part of the ugly girl at the dance..wont matter how many tango savvy partners you bring...if they sit there being Diva's and basking in their glow...could be a long time b4 we see any deals anytime soon

the diva could say..LOOK AT HOW MUCH WE ADDED...so should they dance??

What money, many channels don't actually charge any more for the HD feed, maybe that's why MTV, CMT get carried before more "popular" channels

True, but adding PPVHD, 3D or channels that cost $14.99 is like dancing with your sister.

It's about time we dance with the prom queen.
