Looking at Travel channels shows, lets see what the top shows primary feature is:
    America's Worst Driver
    Bert the Conqueror
    Bizarre Foods
    Chowdown Countdown - FOOD
    Dhani Jones
    Food Wars
    Ghost Adventures -
    Man v. Food
    Meet the Natives
    No Reservations
    Samantha Brown
    Three Sheets
These shows primary interests are the consumption of food and drink. Travel to all types of countries and explore FOOD and DRINK. If Scripps had gotten off the mark better with programming for non-Bible thumpers, FoodTv would have these shows and others like Top Chef and Cake Boss.

If you travel you have to eat. :D

The Travel Channel should probably do a special on McDonalds around the world.

Perhaps next... they could start a program called "Great Bathrooms of the World".

    Wrong.

    America's Worst Driver - Travel
    Bert the Conqueror - Travel
    Bizarre Foods - Travel
    Chowdown Countdown - Travel
    Dhani Jones - Travel
    Food Wars - Travel
    Ghost Adventures - Travel
    Man v. Food - Travel
    Meet the Natives - Travel
    No Reservations - Travel
    Samantha Brown - Travel
    Three Sheets - Travel

All these shows are primarily about travel. Some of them have a secondary focus: food related topics in various locations. It all comes back to travel however.

I would say that some of them have travel as their secondary focus.

That being said, I think the issue is that some people would prefer less shows with food being involved at all.

Personally, I would be more interested in the food shows than the travel programs, but then besides Bourdain's show, I'm not interested in the particular food shows Travel offers...

Perhaps the Travel Channel HD could do a show where they visit the UK and stand real close to a tv showing Dr. Who in HD ;)

I wonder how many viewers end up traveling to the kitchen or nearest restaurant after being inspired by these shows?

I also wonder how many would be defended as food shows if they were on The Food Channel or The Cooking Channel. There seems to be a lot of food in the descriptions. But I digress. There doesn't seem to be a possibility of agreement and The Travel Channel isn't being anticipated (any more).

Just air the show and call it a show about life in San Fransisco. Kinda like The Weather Channel played any movie related to weather as weather on Friday nights. :)

Dr Who would be a natural fit as a show about time travel. :D

I agree Travel channel focuses on food. Years ago when a man owned the channel they took you around the world. Now that Scripts owns it, they it's about food..

I go to the UK quite a lot, actually there are a lot of interesting places to eat, Indian, Chinese, other ethnic and even a few places that are more traditional, just very expensive.

True. I lived there for many years. Great Chinese, great Indian, great Thai, great Italian but don't ask me about the local food. :)

With August 4th just around the corner for 1 new HD channel, and only a few weeks between us and more new HD channels on a 2nd festivus in August as well...

I'll just sit back and wait out the new things...there's plenty to watch in HD for that short period of time.... ;):D

If you want to leave £100 or more per person I know some great places that are "local" For instance there is a great place near Fortnum and Mason that Camilla's ex frequents...........
