I went to see the Minnesota Kicks play 35 years ago at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota. That's what people were saying way back then. "In four years or so, more people will be coming out to watch the Kick play than what the North Stars draw.

Exactly...the hype comes and goes just like after the 94 World Cup, too.

Soccer's great, a huge sport world wide, & I enjoy it. As for it's TV $$popularity$$ here in the US, the viewers aren't there other than the WC.

You never answered my question. If its so unpopular, why is there 3 channels dedicated to it?

Ahh, yes. What was I thinking? Driving your customers to a different provider is always a good business plan. Show them how easy and convenient it is and soon they might just get all of their content there.

My point originally was to those who have stated repeatedly that Mad Men is "just one show" or has never cracked a certain rating with the younger crowd. Check out @directv's twitter feed. Every other tweet is in response to a question about AMC HD. How many septuagenarians do you think are blowing up the twitter? How many downloading on iTunes?

Same reason there's any channel...someone funds them & someone watches.

These days are FAR different than the NASL. Ratings for MLS has slowly increased, same with attendance. WC ratings continue to see an increase every tournament, ESPN now pays millions to show EPL games on weekends. UEFA CL games that were shown on ESPN used to crush any other shows that were on at the same time. Soccer is growing in the US, slowly but surely. I could never comprehend why people are scared of that.

Because demand is low. Low demand keeps cost down. I bet DIRECTV got them for a song and dance. My guess.

If the cost is low why didn't they have FSC HD and FS+ HD at launch?

Good question. Not sure. Maybe DIRECTV played hardball.

I hope FSC isn't included with the Gol in the next set of channels added. That would be a big clue that we are going to get two small festivuses next month.

    Call us in four years.
Despite the 80's song (remade for Haiti in 2010) ... We're not the world.

Football is the world's most popular sport. American's can't even get the name right. :)

Trying to figure out this statement .... is it the 1-0 games that make you say it? I have been hearing about how popular soccer is going to be for 20 years but in reality it has never caught on in the USA. Glad for the soccer fans that they are getting a couple channels but please refrain from saying it will be more popular than hockey. It is simply boring, for many, to watch and most do not understand the game and its strange rules.

    Sure....outside the U.S.

Until they figure out a way to make soccer less boring than a chess tournament or grass growing....not here.

Bring on more HD for HD watchers that prefer some content with a pulse. :D

    Lower...
The addition of soccer channels may be more intended to help with subscriber acquisition in the Mexican, Pan and South American markets.
