    I'm anticipating these:

The blue ones are the ones I want the most. I'm anticipating all of them, but I'm only expecting one of them this year.

The only one I am expecting THIS year isn't even in your list: TruTV HD.

I don't think AMC HD will make the cut this year.

Satelliteracer said the following regarding TruTV HD on April 12, 2011:

I'm personally not putting ANY bets on TruTV coming this year. It might be this year, but it might be next year. That being said, even if it does come this year, it won't matter to me. I watched something on TruTV for the first time earlier this year... not because I wanted to, but because I was supposed to. It will probably be the last time I ever watch TruTV.

On the other hand, I do feel that AMC will make it this year. :D

However, if TruTV is the only "basic" channel added this year, I will consider 2011 to be a pretty crummy year for DirecTV HD... even crummier than 2009. :(

Yeah that’s a tough one to pin down. I think it comes down to cash.

If you have to subscribe to the highest channel package just to get the channel, it’s not basic.
If you have to add a supplemental channel package just to get the channel, it’s not basic.

What I’d call basic, any channel in “Choice”, "Choice Extra” or "Choice Ultimate".

So, to address your assumption, Hutchinshouse believes “Encore” is basic enough. :D

So how do you prepare for HD channel launches? Pizza? Beer? Get up early to watch the launch live?

    Cheers,
    Tom

On fios to get TVG the horse racing channel you have to subscribe to the highest package but TVG definately still is a basic channel.

"The Hour" gets multiple rave reviews, so of course I tune it in. Very good show. Unfortunately, had to watch in BBCA blurro-vision.

    Soon?

It depends upon whether or not the HD channel is something I'm interested in...

In the case of my locals last year, I got up at 5:45 in order to see them pop up in the guide even though I knew I wouldn't be able to receive them until I ordered them later in the day. Alas, they were already showing up in the guide... :(

I think I might have gotten up for Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movie Channel, Lifetime, and Encore last year, but prior to that, even on the few occasions when a channel launch interested me (one in 2009, a few in 2008), I didn't bother to get up early. I remember the old launches held in the chat room back when we had the excitement of Festivus... :(

    I don’t know, I forgot. It’s been so long. ;):D

Seriously, I wake up, flip on the TV, confirm it’s in HD. I then go to work and surf DBSTALK, errrrrr I mean, (cough, cough) work real hard. Once I get home, I scroll through the newly acquired channel and select series record on all cool programming.

I prepared for new HD unexpectedly...no beer or pizza or festivus pole ...ya see back in April 2011 when for the 1st time in 7 years I brought a cable box back into my house..The threat of D* and YES Network not playing nicely made me blink..Ive had all those lovely HD basics ever since and I have the 2 bills to prove it..I have had cable throughout my entire D* existence but only paid for Cable Modem service..

So whenever D* gets off their arse and we dont have people here at DBS feeding us company flavored Kool Aid in all the fuzzy wuzzy promises & soon garbage and the fanboys that follow that rheteric..I'll consider scaling back one service for the other....Because D*'s HD picture is better than that of Time Warner...However till then i have AMC-HD and all its mostly commercials movies & shows..and VOD without DVR

when the Sixto charts are updated with anything relevant, and SR states some innuendo to a fact that something is around the corner..anything else any other rambling...its all fluff without those 2 major players making the rounds of contributing some news..

I didnt prepare for new HD...NEW HD prepared ME !

It would entirely depend on what is added. In most cases I'll just tune in about 5 minutes before launch, watch for about an hour or two, DVR a few upcoming shows from that channel, then I'll go back to what I would normally do.

    ...

But if my last of the most desired channels were to be added, CSN Philly HD, I'd go as far as throwing a "DirecTV Block Party" at the south Philly Sports Complex the night before launch. But only If that somehow clears the DirecTV marketing and the Philly Police department. I can take care of everything else.
