Isn't this getting into the DirecTV vs. Dish argument that isn't supposed to be happening here? Just asking............

No pent = not pentagon. (A channel people were guessing.)

No history was meant to be straight. The Pentagon channel can't be classified as a quality channel as we've never seen it. It might someday be a channel of very high quality--the thing is we don't know.

Hilariously it had the unintended consequence of intimating (one way or another) about the History Channel in HD. I shouldn't have let that one slip...

    Cheers,
    Tom

Okay your only other clue was it's coming "Labour Day" (spelled in British style). So it must be BBC America right?

Am I missing any other "official clues"?

Sure sounds like it, doesn't it. Always gotta watch thems who don't have a vested interest. :)

Labo(u)r was two things. One, useful to define the when as well as to obfuscate it a bit. Two... well, check how the un-American version actually started... :) :)

Wish I could think of some fun ones that aren't too frustrating but really don't allow everyone to solve it before I'm given the ok to spill the beans. I'll keep thinking. :)

Though it has been fun watching everyone watch my every word, comma, and sign... :)

Maybe I'll find clues to leave in my thesaurus... !rolling

    Cheers,
    Tom

In case anyone's keeping track, per TR the new HD channel is NOT:

    Pentagon Channel
    History International
    HLN
    QVC

    Did I miss any TR?

Non-American? BBC Canada launched on September 7, 2001. Close enough? I can hope!

Labour is an Old French noun (which may explain why the Canadians are so keen on the spelling). The only French channel (that isn't in French) I can think of is FashionTV.

I'm sure more than a few would want to French Fry someone at DIRECTV if that were the case.

Sorry ... the majority of the post was 100% about DirecTV's additions. As others (including the one I was responding to) keep defending DirecTV's channel line up by comparing it to others I was sucked in to their trap. Please ignore the final line if it offended you.

It's been one year now since Dish Network added AMC HD. Your above point is excellent (focusing on the missing "basics" whose SDs are in the channel ranges of the 200s and 300s); nevertheless, I do look forward to seeing what "Tests" Sixto reports this coming Wednesday [Aug. 31] for which we anticipate the following week [Wed., Sept. 7] with DirecTV.

I really hope it's AMCHD. BBCAHD would be suck for people who don't care about Top Gear and who have already seen every Gordon Ramsay show. I scrolled through 2 weeks of BBCA guide data and it's not something I would watch very often.

I do as well. New HD channels are always good. Even if the channel isn't one of one's own personal favorites, seeing someone else get what they want gives hope that one day your personal favorites will be added.

Two words: Doctor Who. Right now the only thing keeping me from switching to Dish so I can get BBCA in HD is that D has MLB Extra Innings. But I may reevaluate it over the winter.

It's just about what you like. I don't care squat about Mad Men, so I could care less about AMCHD. To each their own.

I don't like Dish, and I would hate to switch, but Doctor Who is probably my second or third favorite show and I'm pretty tired of watching it in SD. I'm sure Mad Men fans feel the same way.
