It is a 54" Panasonic Plasma and I sit at about 7.5' from it.

When I had both D* and E* HD setups, I had a 61" JVC D-iLA rear projector. Sat about the same distance from it.

Different? Yes, but minimal to my eyes.

My favorites list is everything I get except religion and Spanish. Easier to channel surf that way, since I record all of favorite shows.

I also have one for just HD when I get sick of SD Lite.

Perhaps when I get home from WORK I will do that, but i was looking for any other alternative thoughts as to my issue to get 3 channels I don't subscribe too off the guide when using CIG. Now if you think it takes 2 minutes to set up a custom guide with these receivers you are crazy, it takes 2 minutes to change the channel sometimes

DirecTV & Verizon has a deal. Dish pulled out of a deal with AT&T two years ago.

Makes sense. My list includes every HD channel I get, plus AMC and BBCA.

I find it hard to believe you watch AMC in SD (or at all for that matter).

    CIG doesn't work!

It works better than it used to, but it still SUCKS. I suspect those channels you're referring to will be fixed sometime this year, but there will still be other channels that will probably remain incorrect...

I got real excited when I saw a "bundle" from Windstream on the DirecTV website last week. Then I realized that was only for people who sign up for Windstream DSL for the first time...

Oh well, I'd rather deal with DirecTV customer service than Windstream's anyway...

Know something for all this hype about AMC-HD or the lack of it..

Notice how the channel isnt friendly on repeats of its own flagship shows...someone explain to me (other if a VOD of AMC exists somewhere) that why are the late night hours or morning hours not crammed with reruns of their very publicized shows?? Mad Men,The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Killing...

D* makes me look to torrents for HD copies of shows I miss since I cannot painstake myself to watch an SD copy of a repeat while in season...But the AMC channel itself is stingy as to what they replay..so you cannot fault us for looking for our own alternatives elsewhere...D* may be the bad guys with no more Basic HD additions, (for now...always soon...) other than premiums or PPV's or 3D but AMC itself isnt a picture of innocence either..

It's in my guide for Mad Men, but I found other avenues for viewing it in HD for prior seasons. I have not watched it in several years. If it is in HD for the next season, great. If not...I have other options. I have watched BBCA in SD.

I will NOT watch movies on AMC. I'd rather gouge out my eyeballs and rip my brain out through my nose with a wire coat hanger. See the following:

Yes, we all know how you feel about OAR and preservation. :beatdeadhorse:

I don't watch movies on channels that have commercials or if there's any censorship / editing for content or time either. So bring on the premiums!

I have my custom guide set for 99% of what my wife and I watch. As far as the full guide or CIG and even custom to hide duplicates so only see SD channels that aren,t in hd.Weeds through everything better too.I,agree about AMC as far as movies breaks is one thing which you can DVR and speed pass them but,it is the editing of the films that totally kill them.MGM movie channel breakjs the movie put dosen,t edit them at least from what I seen.Glad I have 3 premiums plus HD Extra for plenty of selections.Reminder for HD Extra fans Wed. HD early Premire movie set your DVR if you can,t watch live.

    Indeed... :)

My list is VERY different from yours and Hoosier205's.

For one, there are several HD channels omitted from my favorites. Not a lot, but a few, and there are a great deal of SD channels included in my favorites list.

    Fox Movie Channel does....

What was that s/a comment for? I was just pointing out it has always worked until they add new channels I don't receive. It was in response to whomever said it's never worked right. It has for me in the past. Sorry I had the audacity to disagree. Geez!

There is an AMC VoD. It's at 1254. It's also SD. There is no inherent reason it has to be, and some good reasons for making VoD be HD even if the linear channel is SD. That it isn't suggests strongly the issue is contractual rather than bandwidth-related.

Right now the AMC VoD on D* has three episodes of Mad Men --the first three eps of Season 3. I haven't checked over time, but presumably they take some down and put more up on a regular basis.

As to why they don't become the "All Mad Men All the Time" channel, or dump the whole series on VoD all at once and keep it there, I think you'd find the answer is DVD/Blu-ray/streaming revenues. Also, everybody getting paid wants you to keep your service long-term; and not sign-up, dump their entire content in a month or two, and then cancel. This is probably even more true for premium channels, but still somewhat true for non-premiums.
