QVCHD? Check these guys out. http://www.imctv.com/digital_tv_hd.php

Apparently they offer every HD channel under the sun and handpick them for their valued customers.

I think the West feeds of premium channels are a left over from the pre DVR days which gave the customer a second chance to view a feature on the same day. I too feel they are no longer necessary and should be replaced with more channels.

I get QVC HD on the local cable provider's ClearQAM channel 132-6902. I never watch it except for the one time Gordon Ramsey was on it a few days ago. I'm surprised DirecTV doesn't have it though, because don't the shopping channels PAY the provider for carriage? They make their money off of people buying stuff, not from carriers paying them.

Comcast even has HSN in HD. Some area's they have an ITV app that lets you purchase stuff with your remote.

Surprised that DirecTV doesn't have this, as it would be another revenue stream. They could take maybe 3-5% of every sale. It's all about money, so that's why i'm surprised they never looked into this revenue stream.

I am to some extant as I said I really want Trutv in HD Before the tourney starts in March also hopefully HLN and AMC as well but right now D's HD lineup blows E out of the water.

Interesting, you would think the D* would want QVCHD added, because doesn't QVC (and HSN) pay to be on D*?

The email I posted and the response, was from where I wrote to QVC. If you look at his reply he says that "We have approached them about it".

In August I sent D* an email asking when QVCHD would be added. After a month and a half, I received the standard canned reply from D*, that they send out when asking about any channel.

They don't actually pay to be on D*. QVC gives providers a commission, which is typically about 5% commission on items sold. Last year QVC generated $7.4 billion in revenues , and they give almost $200 million a year in commissions.

I am surprised at how many people I know who do not have a dvr. I assume that there are still many many D* subscribers who don't have one and that is likely the reason for the continued west coast feeds.

That's interesting info. I can't imagine that carrying the channel in HD would add a significant amount to DirecTV's commissions from this channel. If that is the case, then it would not make sense for DirecTV to use the bandwidth for an HD version.

I haven't subscribed to the premium movie channels in a long time, but my sense from the comments on the board is that there are some viewers that prefer to just turn on the tv and select from the available movies. They don't like the hassle of searching through the guide and deciding what to record for later viewing. So for them, the more choices the better.

That would be true if their current strategy is what it seems more and more now: that they are prioritizing HD channel additions based on revenue generation (i.e. PPV or Premium channels or HD Extra Pack etc.). However, if their strategy is still to be the "HD Leader", then it wouldn't make sense if it's really true that they are allowed to add it at any time at no additional cost to them. I guess since we don't know for sure, that could be a big "if".

Edit: for the record I'm not one hoping this gets added soon. If it were in HD, my wife may actually watch it and start buying. :)
Many more I'd rather see added first...

Oh man, I'd be lost without my west premium feeds. I have only 1 DVR so I use the west feeds to record things all the time. Especially on Sunday evenings.

What's keeping you from switching to cable then?

Not meant as a dig or ridicule.

I always truly wonder about people that talk about how much better a provider is versus their own provider.

Life is far too short to let Your TV provider or ETF's cause a Elevated level of angst.
