So they have more HD channels than anyone else....Dish lost some Disney and Fox Channels and is now even further back...so explain to us how they are faling behind again?

Seems every time we have an anticipation thread...it gets littered by folks with misinformation, agendas, and slanted rants (NOT the poster quoted). Good grief.

I anticipate DirecTV will continue to have the most HD Channels, adding at least 6 more national HD channels before the end of this quarter - AMC HD will only be among them if the price is right. Seems the content providers are in the middle of a greed gorgefest.

Well of course they're not falling behind Dish Network. I meant they're falling behind the cable company. I knew I was losing some HD channels when I subscribed to DirecTV so I can't really complain.

D* doesn't consider cable a threat since HD channels on cable vary by system and market. E* is their only true competitor, they're the only other provider that's available nationally with the same lineup across the board.

Cable company? Which one? There's only 1 that has more Full-Time National HD than D* & that would be Cablevision................

Well, they're new, and likely waiting for the customer base to get a little better before rolling out the big guns in their catalog. . but the Sony catalog is actually pretty impressive, including 4,000 Columbia Pics titles.

Time Warner Cable in my area offered more HD channels than DirecTV, no I'm not counting on demand or pay-per-view I'm talking about full time HD channels, probably all (or most) of them that DirecTV subscribers are asking for now (even BBC America). But I will say the DirecTV HD channels do look somewhat better than cables and the boxes are significantly better.
We even had pointless HD channels like QVC HD and HSN HD.

I know and they're right to do that too because the technology is also different because DirecTV is simply not a cable company. They've got E* beat in just about every category.

I doubt very much they are ignoring AMC. They haven't been able to get a deal done, but that doesn't mean they don't know it's very high on the list of wants for what's still left on the HD table they don't have yet.

Well, I guess it is better then nothing....I would rather see the Epix channels added to the HD extra pack over Sony Movie .... but I'll take it...

Hopefully we get a few more.....

Considering the other premiums show Sony movies as well as other studios, what did you expect?!

You also might want to take a look at the schedule for Indieplex/Retroplex before you get excited about them...

"Das Boot", "On The Waterfront", "Ghostbusters II", "The Professional", etc., aren't exactly slouches...

I can understand the negotiating for AMC HD, but I remember reading that BBCA wasn't charging an additional fee for their HD feed. If that's true, there's no excuse for D* not having it.

I find it hard to believe they'd not, if everyone else appears to be.

Is it possibly for them to only carry an HD feed? I mean I understand that same channels like Palladia are only in HD but say the History Channel, by default the guide it set to hide sd duplicates but what's the point in even having an HD version at all?

I didn't say I didn't expect that. I took a look at Indieplex/Retroplex and they have more movies I can't remember seeing recently on the guide. Ghostbusters and The Professional are now available from Sony VOD. I agree with Das Boot and On the Waterfront.

My vote would go for Epix, based on what I see scheduled for the next weeks. The truth is, we don't need more movie channels showing the same blockbusters, perhaps Sundance and IFC would be better because they show more "niche" movies.

You know what I REALLY want, right ? A....M....C !!!

Epix has also been out longer, I'd give SMC some time to get better. Good thing here is, if you sub to the pack, it's coming at no cost, if you don't, then you do not care.
