They're talking about the news that Earl mentioned awhile back about brand new in theater movies available as $30 PPV.

For the record, I was commenting on the public article about it.
Not making any type of assertion that DIRECTV is going that route.

    Just to be clear.

That would be one of the advantages in living in the boonies. Last time I went to the theaters, it was $8.50 for adults. A couple of Summers ago, they lowered the price to $7.50... but I think it's gone back up now...

The exact words " Get over 400 of the newest movie releases — many available 28 days before Netflix and Redbox " (from Directv website).

If my English is correct, "newest" is even stronger than "new". There is no such thing as "400 new releases" because there are not 400 new movies/shows unless you go back 6 months or more.

Boy, you are out in the boonies. I googled Dawson, GA and had visions of Deliverance. :D

So much for you wanting to keep the discussion about channel counts in their own thread.

By the way - two high end 55" TVs, one with D* HD and one with E* HD. NO difference in picture quality. Both were excellent.

    !rolling :D

Otis Redding and Johnny Mathis were born here.

Not much else I can say about it... ;)

Maybe that's why I care about missing TV channels so much! ;)

Don't we already have the 400 movies on demand? I thought they added a boatload (not all "newest") recently and now have channels for comedy, action, etc.

I think this is already done.

I received TVMail this morning "Welcoming me to DirecTV Cinema" (or something like that) stating that I now had access to 400 titles, so yeah, I think you're right.

Damn, I'm good. Reading TV Mail I havn't even seen yet. And the wording is exactly what was quoted above (thank you Sling on iPhone).

Actually, I think I got regular email on this a while back and I looked at it. Lots of movies of varying ages. Funny part was that a lot of them are available on premiums currently, but that is the same with Fios and probably with Comcast.

Wednesday. One channel, it seems; Sony Movie Channel, and probably HD Extra Pack.

LMAO. Keep padding those numbers with PPV and RSNs...keep padding those numbers...

Did they really say that? I'm not sure how $12 for two PPV movies equates to unlimited streaming + Blu/DVD rentals for the same price (my package), but whatever. If anything it's more of a VUDU experience, and I don't use VUDU either.

Agreed. It also demonstrates just how absurdly overpriced the other premium channels are. I'll probably add the Extra Pack later this month just for Monsters, but I don't think I'd keep it for more than the month (or 3 months if they still have that free offer...?). However, if they added Epix to that package, I'd probably change my mind (looking at their schedule). Looking at the schedule for the Sony channel, aside from Léon, there's not much I'd care to watch again.

I have "Léon" on Blu-ray, so I don't even care about that. A few of the other movies I've seen a million times before, I'll either wait until I purchase it on Blu-ray ("Starman"), or it comes out on Blu-ray ("Ghostbusters II"). I WILL be recording "Les Miserables" next month as I haven't seen it in a LONG while, and I'm excited about the possibilities the channel represents...
