Just got an email that Roku is adding Hulu-plus this fall and have new boxes that stream 1080p and have 10 second skip.

That's a real game changer. Hope DIRECTV can come up with a sports only package.

Don't see it as a game changer at all. Roku could do 720p and I seriously doubt any content will really benefit from 1080p for quite some time. Hulu Plus is still limited.

The 10 sec rewind is just moving back in the stream. Not really new, just done easier than in the past.

This an incremental change, not revolutionary.

1080p takes a bit of speed. VUDU has 1080p & it's very nice PQ & AQ.

Hulu has never been great, IMO...It never has stuff I want.

You know, I wouldn't mind so many more additional PPV channels if there wasn't so much crap on the existing ones to begin with.

Not impossible, of course, but why wouldn't they already be in TEST, with SMC? One could spin some plausible circumstances that would allow it, but they'd be Rosy Scenario thinking. Personally, I prefer to be pleasantly surprised than moderately disappointed.

You got that right. Plus haven't purchase a PPV in over 6 years. Not interested even though I do enjoy good movies!

My guess is VERY FEW people exist in that category. Why the hell would you spend $30 and not get the movie experience, particularly the HUGE screen?

I have a top of the line 52" tv, and enjoy my movies on it, but when we go to the theaters a few times a year, it is NOT because we can't wait the short while for the movie to be released on disk, it's because we want to have a fun night out and experience the "REALLY BIG SCREEN" with a great movie.

I might be wrong, but I doubt it. And even if the economy was good, I still don't see it. Now, charge me $15-$20/mo. for a Netflix type set-up, and I would seriously consider it.

You must have gone to school around here, didn't you?! :D

No offense to Coca Cola Kid... I just couldn't leave this post alone.... ;) :D

In all seriousness though, it could start Monday, or it's possible that the iPhone app is simply adding programming information prematurely. For those with the iPhone (and app), I'd LOVE to know whether or not you can set up recordings for Monday, and if it will actually record.

Back when I was having issues with ABC and The CW included with our local channels, I would try to set up recordings via the DVR Scheduler, but they wouldn't work since the DVR didn't have the programming information. Of course, now ABC, The CW, and one other local channel isn't even available on DVR Scheduler. Since the program information for Sony Movie Channel SHOULD be available now, it would probably work... I would think anyway...

Also, prior to our locals gaining CBS this past Wednesday, I was able to tune into it since AT LEAST last Saturday, and even set up Series Link on the channel, but NOTHING would show up in the To Do List until after the channel was launched Wednesday morning...

I just used my I-Phone to setup the recording of "The Spanish Prisoner" on Monday afternoon. I got the confirmation on the phone but nothing showed up on the receiver todo list (as expected).

Well it seems kind of impossible to record a channel that isn't live yet. Maybe we're getting it Monday though, who knows. We got BET HD on a Friday.

The channel is there... we just can't get to it. I used "What's Hot!" to get our local CBS last Saturday prior to it getting launched this Wednesday. I then added it to QuickTune, and I could get it to it anytime I wanted to.

Still... my thanks to slimoli for the attempt! :)

Before D12 went live, people were nay saying the HD channels additions based on those comments, saying most of the space would be used for PPV/Movie programming. Many DirecTV subscribers were saying that wouldn't be true. When that bastion of misinformation, "Swanni," gave a similar pessimistic prognosis, I think even Satelliteracer posted to disagree. I agree that it's strange how once DirecTV actually does what it says it would do people are are shocked or become one of the converted, but D* also publicly only promoted new bandwidth in terms of HD channels. It's true they only said "up to" 200 channels and not simply "200 channels." But as advertisers they were definitely trying to create an impression of "200 HD channels," so much so that many posters who are happy to point out that to "whiners" that D* only ever said "up to" are also completely taken in by the "tango" excuse and believe that DirecTV really wants to add the channels people are whining about not having.

After D11 went live, everyone was upset with the additions, half of which, I believe, were Showtime channels. Premium subscribers weren't the only ones complaining. Everyone was. All for good reason, given how DirecTV promoted D11. If DirecTV didn't promoted many more true channels in HD than they actually delivered, people wouldn't be so disappointed.

I'm also very tired of people who defend DirecTV based on how much revenue their "business model" makes. Unless you are part owner of the company or work for them, you are a customer, pure and simple. And as customers, people should be upset that they are not getting what they want or what DirecTV seemed to promise in the build up to D12. If a person is simply a customer of DirecTV yet defend them on the "but they make so much more money by not adding more true channels in HD" defense, then s/he is just an unpaid puppet for the corporation. Customers should be upset when they believe the product they receive is not what it could be or what is advertised is not being delivered.
