I also love football. I am not a snob. But I find the ever pouting, ever obnoxious, ever getting all the calls from the referees Steelers boring as sin.

Once a quarterly HD Channel Anticipation thread veers off this deep into curling, I think it's evidence that the mods should maybe consider changing to Monthly HD Channel Anticipation threads. ;)

Perfect proof in today's Steelers @ Dolphins game. Big Ben (sic) fumbles at the half-yard line and three Dolphins fall on the ball in the end zone, clearly recovering it for a touchback. The call on the field: Touchdown Steelers, naturally.

The official under the hood, realizing everyone has seen Ben's fumble, spends extra time to figure out how he can possibly throw the game the Steelers' way. Answer: Acknowledge the fumble happened but pretend the Dolphins did not recover it.

Hypothesis verfied once again. Score one for the NFL, -7 for the Dolphins. (And I'm not a Dolphins fan.)

My conclusion: Never again will I watch a Steelers game, unless the Vikings are involved.

[Oops, only -3 for the Dolphins. The Steelers didn't go for the half yard on 4th down. Wusses! But of course they won anyway.]

This thread is so pathetic...wish there was actually some new HD channel additions in the works that we could actually "anticipate"!

Yes I'm thankful for the new channels we received this year...yada yada...

I really think we need to change the header to: Channel Anticipation this next decade. We might have more to talk about...but then maybe not.

It would be nice if Directv encouraged customers to let them know what WE would like added. Yes there is a logical way to do this and I'm not referring to inside research.

Yeah I know you can email them...which goes to some BS dept and you get a canned response...

I'm thinking about a third of the way through the quarter, some one needs to post a link to this to keep things in perspective...

The great thing about anticipating is that you can antcipate anything you'd like. Kind of like Christmas... only Festivi can come at any time.

This is getting kind of depressing. There is nothing worth anticipating on the horizon... other than more PPV and perhaps Spanish language soccer.

Yep...and lately (as much as I hate to say this) I'm beginning to wonder that Swanni's prediction regarding Directv's new HD additions might be correct...man I hope not!!!

Last year, something similar happened in a Chargers-Broncos game. A referee made a bad call on a play that if was left to continue would have lead to a turnover. In that game, the turnover was completely obviously.

In this game, the TD/fumble call was obvious wrong, but furthermore there was no absolute visual proof Miami had recovered the fumble, though I believe its at least 80-20 Miami did. The big problem is you can't fairly expect players to act the like the play is still going on once a referee has ruled it dead in some fashion.

The NFL needed to fix this rule last year and they need to fix it now. They need to figure out a way for the play to continue even after the ref has made an on field judgment while still maintaining proper game clock management.

It's imperfect, but the best I can think of is to tell the league a whistle blown within the redzone refers only to the clock and the play can't be officially considered dead until the ball is outside of each teams hands. It would mean more official time corrections, but it would also mean the play could be called correctly even if an incorrect call was made halfway through.
