You aren't seeing anything because continued expansion will be largely dependent on the launch of the D12 satellite this fall. This bird will provide the necessary transponders for continued expansion. The launch of D12 will be from Baikonaur and it is currently 4th in line. This would indicate a launch in late September but as with any launch schedule there will/could be some stretch in the schedule. Until the satellite is launched there is little reason to speculate. The last satellite D11 brought us many new channels and you will see many postings around here by people who are furious because Directv "wasted" transponders on (choose your favorite target here) sports, PPV, Locals, etc,. DirecTV made some choices on this last satellite to greatly expand their Local Channel HD penetration. This made people who have eagerly awaited their locals channels in HD happy, but those who already had their locals in HD and wanted "other" channels are angered by this. DirecTV also chose to deliver much of their PPV lineup in HD. This also angered many people who would never watch a PPV movie but no doubt has had an impact on DirecTV's bottom line as they receive more income from HD PPV movies. For those who like PPV and, in spite of popular belief around here, there are many who do, having the PPV movies available in HD was a good thing. Finally there is Sports, I personally couldn't care less if any sports event was ever broadcast, so I guess you could say that this makes me angry that the bandwidth was given to expand their sports coverage. However, I understand the popularity of sports and DirecTV has always been the place to go for sports. So that means we have a few national HD channels out there that aren't currently being served by DirecTV and probably won't be until the late last quarter of this year. Everyone has their own channel to champion. Realistically though, the current HD lineup at DirecTV has most, though not all of the important HD channels covered. With a few exceptions, other stations that have HD, actually offer little in the way of HD programming as yet. You will also hear many arguments that such and such channel is HD but never shows anything in HD, so dump it and add (insert favorite non HD channel here) instead. What most do not realize is that many channels are owned under a single corporate umbrella and negotiated their respective positions. This was never more obvious than the extremely limited HD programming from channels such as MTV and VH1... but their parent Viacom negotiated HD status as a group for all of their channels at the same time AND they were ready at the right time. So channels that are heavily championed around here... E!, AMC, Travel, the Lifetimes, Chiller, BBC America, etc., don't have coverage right now but it is coming. It may not be on the timetable folks around here would like to see, but it is still coming and by early Spring next year I suspect every channel that wants HD distribution by DirecTV will have it. There it is, DirecTV has learned over the past couple of years to not "announce their ducks until they are all in line" because people pounce on them if things don't go as planned. If they don't make schedules or promises, they can't be harassed for missing them.
