They said the same thing about Versus, which carried NCAA football & NHL.

Well, the Customer Base for The Golf Channel is much Large and much more Affluent so you can't compare the two effectively, like Apples and Oranges!!!

Yes it did, but it was publicized by the media. Carriage agreements aren't new, but the way we get news is exploding.

What should Directv do? Agree to whatever Comcast wants because you and a few others think the channel matters?

Oh please. First, get off your rich "affluent" high horse. Hockey is one of the most expensive sports to play, just like golf. Golf ratings pale in comparison to college football. Golf ratings are fueled by one thing...Tiger.

I won't even watch a tournament without Tiger, it feels like amateur night. I know it's not exactly logical, but when you see Woods at his best, he's superhuman. He sets the standard. Can he get that old Black magic back? I don't know, but as far as I'm concerned, a round without Tiger is merely a good walk spoiled.

I don't like seeing one person win all of the time as it really makes for a boring tournament but granted Tiger has done some Supernatural Things that Destiny may have had something to do with.

I think he will be back and he will be back this year as he does not have the distractions now that he had last year and he wants to get his Number 1 Ranking back plus he could use a little more money after his expensive divorce and loss of Sponsors.

Does it though? Ratings show this channel is about 80th out of 88 channels in viewership. Do the golf channel people buy the most premium package? We have no idea, but they do.

Is Comcast gouging Directv elsewhere and Directv has had it? Probably? Look at the Versus situation? The G4 situation? where Comcast has asked for rate increases and wanted to tinker with tier placement. Look at the games Comcast has played with CSN Northwest and CSN Philadelphia.

The pending issues with a Comcast owned NBC, USA Network, MSNBC, etc.?

If all this continues our bill will go up quite a bit. Comcast will go in and make a case for each one of these channels deserves a price increase.

How much will I pay? How much will you pay? Directv knows what it is doing. I feel comfortable the Golf channel is part of a larger issue and it will be sacrificed because of its smaller viewership.

If Comcast wants the Golf channel to remain, it will remain. Comcast, however, will need to come off its high horse and be reasonable, flexible, and show class and integrity. These are things so fundamentally wrong with Comcast and it will be difficult for Comcast's culture to shift. Is it even possible for the arrogant CEO Brian Roberts to show some class, integrity, and reason and have his organization follow suit? I doubt it.

As few outlets for golf news as their are, TGC is very important to those who follow the game.

Guess that's why (only) DirecTV had the exclusive multi-channel HD coverage of all golf major events yet again this year.

And this makes it easier to understand why DIRECTV would drop the only full-time channel in a sport that they otherwise seem pretty dedicated to?

Totally agree it was getting boring watching Tiger win by 10 strokes every week, but those days are long gone. It's exciting now to just see if he can make the cut, or be there on Sunday with some kind of longshot. He doesn't always, but he can inject a lot of excitement into a round whether he's a serious contender or not. If he's not there, it's like watching the Nike Tour or the Senior Tour. Major ZZZZzzz's.

Nothing yet but I doubt D would be stupid to drop the channel because it does produce ratings in season.

    Somewhere...
I'm not suprised. I wouldn't expect any news yet. I think what probably has happened though is a temporary agreement of sorts to keep the channel up while they are in talks for a new contract. Just like with G4 we didn't really know they had done that tell after they were preparing to pull the station. The fact the date has been removed from the Directv site regarding these talks and is treating it like any other standard channel in talks plus the fact nothing about it is even mentioned on the golf channel site would lead me to believe this channel isn't going anywhere. I don't think it is a matter of if a deal will be reached now, but when it will be reached.

So does Versus right? We lost it, then got it back just in time for NHL season if I remember correctly.

We got it back, but it was towards the end of the NHL season. Just in time for the playoffs.

The Time Warner cable customers are on the verge of losing FOX and CW down here in San Antone. They have till midnight to come up with a solution. We should be getting more customers for D and Dish. Will let you know tomorrow what happened.

If Golf goes dark at midnight, just switch over to 279 and check out the launch of OWN - it's Oprah Winfrey 24/7!

    ;)
