"Up to 8 additional HD channels before football season".

    Sounds like PAC12 to me.

Actually DN has less bandwidth per transponder limited to the ITU/FCC Ku band mandated DBS standard of 24 MHz. Thereby transmitting at a SR of 21,500K for a throughput rate of around 26.5 mb/s. Whereas DIRECTV is at a user selected 36 MHz per transponder for the Ka band at a transmission SR of 30,000K for a throughput rate around 39 mb/s.

But through a combination of down-converting the 1080i feeds to 1440 horz. pixels, greater temporal compression, and a higher level of modulation of 8-PSK vs. QPSK for DIRECTV Ka band CONUS, DN is able to squeeze that many channels onto what is actually a smaller transponder than DIRECTV.

Sacrificing PQ in the process of course ...

Checking LyngSat, DN uses the same 2/3 FEC code rate for HD CONUS as DIRECTV. So I guess the real savings in bandwidth comes from their greater temporal, spacial compression and higher level (8-PSK) modulation.

That would be better to compare a BitRate of tpns and number/type of channels in it. You will exclude three variables: Modulation, SR and FEC.

    What he said!

I don't subscribe to the Sports Package, so I got a 721, but... yeah.

beIN Sports (Spanish) was apparently on 119°. I'm assuming this was beIN Sports 2 given that it was not a simple remap with alternate audio?!?!

620 back on. Sixto should be able to see it in his reports.

    Correct.

GolTV went from 426/620 to 456/627, and that's the way those types of changes show in the report.
