Directv wants to bill me $470!

    I happen to be returning an HR20 tomorrow, and I don't think this question has been answered directly. Do I need to ask FedEx for some sort of receipt OTHER THAN the bottom tag off the mailing label, or is just the tag with the tracking info sufficient?

    Make sure the tag at the bottom has the tracking # on it as well (it should) but if not just jot it down, make a copy or take a pix or something. From there you will be able to track on their website and have proof via the online tracking that it made it back to D*.

    Just get the tracking number tag and check in on their website so you can print the info showing when and where your package was delivered. The info is available online for quite some time, I believe.

    You know I have a little problem with the way DTV does this anyway......The whole RMA process.

    Ok so we all know we generally pay a high fee initially for a HR20 and it could be anywhere from $99-$299 depending on who you talk to in D*. This is only a lease charge so you don't own it and on top of that you pay a $5 a month fee.

    Ok so a few of us have had issues with the HR20 and the box has died for one reason or another and have needed a replacement. No problem right? Just call D* and they will ship you a replacement at $20 your cost. Why is it my cost for shipping? Me personally I paid you $200 up front for the unit.......Have paid you $5 every month to keep it......and I pay for your protection plan every month. What really disturbed me is you send me a replacement for my dead unit and that one is also dead out of the box? Guess hwta you send me another receiver and I get billed another $20:mad:

    Sorry just ranting.........I love D* and have no intentions of leaving. I have been a customer for over 10 years and usually have nothing to gripe about but this to me is just a bad way of doing business. But thats just my opinion.

    You don't pay another $5 every month to keep it - you pay $5 a month to mirror programming to it - just like you would if you actually owned the box.

    And if you are paying for the Protection Plan, you should not get charged shipping for the replacement boxes. They should only charge shipping on replacements if you do NOT have the PP.

    Interesting........They sure didn't offer that to me. I guess I need to file a complaint.

    I also had a problem when I had to return a bad HR-20, but my bill was for over $900.

    I was trying to get an OTA issue fixed so they sent me out a refurb HR-20 and I was going to replace my HR-20 to see if it fixed the problem.

    When I took to refurb HR-20 out of the box it had at least one screw or piece of something in the HR-20 moving around so I called D* and told them. I also told them there was no return label to return the box. They said they would send a return label out. I also told them that i did not want them to send another HR-20 out.

    2 weeks later, no return label. I called D* and they said they would send a box out to return the HR-20 and it should be about a week.

    A week later no box to return the reburb HR-20. I called again and they looked at the computer and said they did not know what happened but they would send another return box.

    3 days later I get a box and I return the refurb HR-20 the next day.

    I get home that day and there is another return box from D*.

    I just put the box aside. Well on my next bill I get a shocker, Over $900 for a month of D*, I don't think so. I call D* and they say that I did not return 2 HR-20's. I say they only sent one and no return label. They look at the computer and tell me they will have to transfer me.

    Well after about 4 calls and a about 20 days I got it fixed.

    I had one of my R15s replaced a couple of months ago. The return label was in the box with the replacement unit that D* shipped to me.

    If you call them they should, but I prefer just going to a local Kinko's/Fed Ex and handling it there, they will provide a lot of backup documentation if you ask.

    OK my question, I have a leased D11 in my bedroom and an owned HDVR2-old hughes Tivo unit (owned) in my garage. This weekend or next, I am going to pull my electronics out of my garage (detached) for the winter. I was going to put the Tivo in my bed room (only 1 line) and deactivate the D11 until next spring. I just got the stupid thing (and a 1 year commitment) and was hoping that since I am not cancelling service they would let me put in "storage" until spring or I cancel service (Not in the forseeable fututre). Should I just buy a used standard receiver to keep avoiding the shipping charges every spring and extended contracts?

    I had to call Direct just today to remind them to send me a return box for my H10 box I had just recently replaced with a H20...Hopefully it will arrive this time..

    We live in strange times!

    I bitched at collecting a $75.00 "refundable" deposit at the time of installation.
    What if the check bounced?

    This is worse!

    You are so right, i had to send back 2 boxes and both times from reading on DBS Talk i knew to make copies of the tracking labels, and for an extra layer of 'overkill', i took it to Fedex Kinko's and they even scanned it into the system and gave me a receipt rom their computers, so i have irreputable proof that i urned it in.... no problems yet....
