I wish the release schedule on the Hotel/Airplane schedule would soon include Home premium PPV.

I won't hear of this! HBO is premiering McGruber right now! Doesn't get any better! My premium $$$ at work...

I can live with the lack of new movies coming out on HBO, Starz, etc. What I find frustrating is they play the same 12 movies over and over again for a couple months. How can they compete with Netflix? I can't justify their cost for the one movie a month that I would watch on their channels.

I subscribe to Premier because of original programming on the premium channels and the opportunity to watch movies I didn't want to see in the theater or didn't feel like renting. Also having a couple dozen more HD Channels is nice.

I dunno. I'd like to get that $114 bill off my statement, but then I run out of NetFlix content and find some pretty good movies that I record blindly. Find some pretty bad ones too. I've got the 5 DVD sub from NetFlix and I've been watching TV series for the last few months. My son also has a NetFlix sub. Add the cost of those two to the $114 a month for Premier and the cost for movies and other stuff is pretty high, but as long as the wife doesn't complain....

You also could drop the premiums and pick them up for a month every once in a while, and then download all the series using on-demand. Works great for Showtime, not sure about HBO.

I agree with the OP that the selection on HBO and Showtime has become incredibly stale the last couple of months. If this continues I will drop them. I would drop Starz too but its free. :)

For some people, it all comes down to how long you're willing to wait to see the programming. For example, I am eagerly awaiting the new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO, and I don't want to have to wait until sometime in 2012 to see it on DVD.

If you don't mind waiting, then Netflix, etc. is a great replacement. For us, it's not. We actually have both the premiums and Netflix streaming. We find the Netflix streaming to be a great supplement.

I've found Netflix to be so cheap that I added it to my "entertainment package" instead of replacing something with it. Makes a GREAT addition to the Premier Package on D*.

OP, what planet have you been living on for, oh, the past few decades? :D

    Its always worked like this:

    Day 0: Theater Run

Day 1 - Day 2: poor quality boot legs appear online and in NYC :D

A month or two before the DVD release high quality DVD rips appear online

About 0 - 6 months AFTER the theater run, it appears on PPV and DVD and *cough* some rental places (I'm looking at you Netflix )

A month after everybody else has had it, Netflix finally gets it

1 - 2+ YEARS later HBO gets it

A few years after that it appears on the other premium channels like showtime, TMC, etc.

A few years after that, it appears on TV.

Whats new here? Its never been worth it to buy premium channels .

Even when DTV gives me free premium channels for the weekend, there is not ONE thing to watch. Unless of course you want to see that Wilmer Valderama movie in the airport where he babysits kids... or watch Taken for the 1 millionth time.

I can usually find a couple premium movies to watch during the free preview weekends. "Easy Virtue" on Starz last month comes to mind

However, I let my free PPV coupon from DirecTV expire as I couldn't find a movie listed that I really wanted to see.
