When I watch Discovery directly, I get a superb quality picture. If I download the same show from the on demand channel, the picture quality looks poorer than SD! Is this a compression problem or do they just store it on their server at a very low quality. Is there anything I can do about this?

Also, are you choosing Watch Now or Record when you do the On Demand?

DirecTV's on demand is pretty much useless. Most of it is SD, even if the live channel is HD. I have no idea who the market is for VHS quality video in 2013, but it certainly isn't me. At least most of the premium channels seem to have HD content though.

If you are referring to NBC, FOX, etc..that I believe is a contractual thing currently.
