And might lose as many or more due to the rate increases that would be necessary to cover the fees for adding those channels.

Is this even meaningful for EA subscribers? How would Dish know if you have a HD or SD TV attached to a VIP receiver?

On my VIP 722k when I go into Menu/System Setup/Installation/System Info. After the tests have run there is a section there when you select at the bottom,Next. That tells if there is a digital connection, plus HDCP.I do believe that let's them know who has what.:eek2:;):D

Despite the availability of "HD Free for Life" since last June, it would be wrong to assume every EA subscriber had HD service. DISH provided EA HD locals for free prior to last June - and still does - but there are customers in EA markets who got EA dishes and equipment and still don't subscribe to any HD service.

Last February (2010) DISH leveled the playing field for HD by requiring customers to pay the same for SD receivers as HD receivers. Raising receiver fees to the higher charges. A breakdown of how many receivers this affected would be interesting ... SD cutomers who built up over the first 14 years getting an increase with no improvement in their equipment.

Maybe DISH could start using those increased revenues to begin migrating SD receivers to HD receivers? The migration is going to happen, one way or another. For now, I wouldn't mind if DISH could implement letterboxing as we have several locals that have the sides chopped off.

It made cents to me to add HD For Life(with AutoPay and AutoBilling) with my VIP722k/w MT2 upgrade even though I'm not HD yet.But I'm ready now for whenever.:)

Plus now this Thurs. OWN Network will be in HD!(for those who want more HD Channels!).;):D

Not to mention that many businesses that are reporting great profits are doing so by cost cutting, staff reductions and (where possible) offshoring some jobs, not so much by raising top-line revenue. If these savings offset the reduction in the subscriber base, the profit situation can look good even if the fundamentals and sustainability of the earnings growth is suspect.

DISH revenue has increased every quarter for the past 6 quarters. The 9 quarters before that were within 50k of the 3Q 09 figure.
