Hi, I was looking at upgrading my receiver. The CSR told me that I could upgrade to any leased receiver for free if I accept to a two year commitment. Now, if I upgraded to a leased receiver and for ever reason I wanted to drop the Dish Network service, how much would the cancellation fee be? Thanks.

Too much. I would just buy the receiver you want. You can sell it if you decide to cancel and get most of your money back.

Saw a brand new 722k go for $163 recently on ebay. 211ks are around $70 brand new. 612s about $150.

Unless I missed an update, as of 9/29/10, the cancellation fee under the DIU promo is $240.00 or $10 per month remaining on your 24 month commitment.

10 bucks per month is cheap. I just switched to Direct and they are 20 bucks a month for 2 years or 480.00

Yep you missed two actually. It's currently $17.50/mo. Before that it was $15.00/mo. It's been a while since it's been 10.00/mo. As been pointed out in a previous post it's still less expensive than Directv's $20.00/mo.

I signed up on that HD for Life deal...I can't remember if that had a cancellation or not...pretty sure it did.

I've had both of my receivers for better than 2 years, one for probably 7 years. I could have owned both of them several times over by now. I guess next time I get receivers I'll be sure to buy them outright. I guess I've just resigned to the notion that they'll get their money one way or the next.

FYI, the DIU cancellation fee is only $240 or $10 per month remaining in the contract.

It's the same for HDFFL contarct. $240 or $10 pm.

The $420 or $17.50 is for new subs only.

Ok, yep you're right, we're talking about the HD Free for Life here, not the new sub promo or the formers promo.

It should also be said If you decide to purchase any receiver from EBay to get the receiver ID number and smart card number then call Dish Network to make sure there is no outstanding balance on the receiver or that the receiver is leased.:eek2::(
