I'm sure this question has already been asked plenty of times... Basically I was wondering if there's any possible way to get rid of that annoying Dish on Demand menu when trying to go to my recordings? I think it was a few months ago when the update happened... Right after it happened I called to ask and of course they said there's no way...

I suppose I'm just hoping they added a way I'm not seeing within the last few updates. If not, is there any word on if they plan on letting us choose in the future?

    Thx :)

    East...
And you won't even see it. Once you get in the habit of hitting the button twice you might even forget the menu is there!:D

I personally would love to see some numbers from Dish on whether anyone actually uses this feature.. I very seldom even order a payperview movie, but I have no quams about waiting 30 minutes to see one for a buck cheaper.. Or just set it to record and watch it when I want to.. I just can't see how DOD was ever needed. But I am sure Dish will never release any actual numbers of usage..

Put DOD in HD and I'm sure I'd be watching.

I just noticed a DOD movie available for the first time-Casino Royale. I'd like to watch it but I'm not gonna pay 4.99 to watch it in SD. HD--maybe.

If they made it $2, I'd use it. But DVD video quality is better (plus 5.1), and I'll gladly pay $4 for that and go pick one up. $5 is a joke.

Casino Royale is available on their HD-PPV channel, 94-something.

As for the DOD stuff, they're really filling it up recently ! I have (12) movies available. Much to Dish's dismay, I'll never watch them. In fact, I've never ordered a PPV movie. Going to the video store isn't a hassle for me, much as the cablecos and sat providers would like us to think.

Hey Dish ! I'll pay a small amount extra ($1-2) per month if you give me the HDD space the DOD crap takes up.... :)

DOD does seem overpriced and the selection usually isn't what I'm looking for. All the local Kroger stores have added DVD vending machines where you can rent the latest releases for $1 a night. While it may not be as convienent as DOD the cost difference and selection make renting DVDs a better deal for most people.

Yeah, the providers do seem to mistakenly think they can charge a small amount more for PPVs or D/VOD under the guise of "convenience". I just don't see it that way.... I'm not home-bound 24 hours a day. I get out of my house.... I've got a mom-and-pop video store that's walking distance away, have a Hollywood Video less than 2 miles away, and 3 Blockbuster stores all less than 3-4 miles away. If I go *anywhere*, odds are I'll be real close to one of those.

As for the selection, well, clearly Dish doesn't monitor what we watch or if they do, they don't tailor the DOD selections based on my viewing habits. Of the (12) available for me, I don't recall that any were movies I'd watch or rent.

I'm curious--is the number of available titles a function of time? I've only been a customer for a couple months at this point (maybe a little less) and I only have one movie available.

The number of titles available is based more on how often your receiver stays turned off.. It doesn't download stuff to the VOD if the receiver is on. If you leave it off longer it will add more titles.
Now the quality of the titles is based on something else.. But certainly not on what I might actually watch.. And certainly not SD

To be honest, I can't say if (12) is a lot, normal, or a low number. Until L4.01, you had to go into the menu to see the listing .... which I rarely ever did. Now it tells you how many are available when you hit "DVR" on the remote.

MIne stays on from around 1pm to 11 pm on weekdays. I would think that "graveyard shift" would be the time they would be doing this. But I agree with you--very unlikely I would view one in SD.

I'll second that. Plus, all of those DOD items put more wear and tear on the hard drive. You know, not like any of us haven't had problems with hard drives failing. ;)
