Dish's Ergen Makes $2 Billion Offer for LightSquared
LightSquared Has Until May 31 to Accept Offer

" While there has been some twitching from the corpse of LightSquared in DC, it has been fairly clear to everyone that the company has been dead for quite some time. Now insiders tell Bloomberg that Charlie Ergen made a $2 billion "stalking horse" bid to acquire LightSquared's assets and spectrum"

Wonder what it's like to actually embody the saying "A billion here, a billion there...."

Your DVR fee has nothing to do with LightSquared and Sprint and everything to do with DirecTV and Comcast Cable rates.

I would be interested in a cell service that integrated an on demand access to sat service. That could be a great selling point for picking your cell service. Agreed that anyone concerned about natural disasters, emergency responders, government agencies, large corporations, etc. would all be interested in a simple satellite service solution.

Right now, we are looking at purchasing sat phone service for work, but you have to get a special phone and keep it charged despite infrequent use. And what if there is a disaster while you are at home, but the sat phone is at work? This could be a great selling point...

Yes because clearly Dish invented DVR fees and is the only company to use them.

A new insight into an old thread:

Yesterday's WSJ had an article about this. It seems that Charlie formed a dummy corp, SP Special Opportunities LLC and purchased more than $1B of LightSquared bank debt, lots of it at 50 to 60 cents on the dollar. If the Dish purchase goes thru $1.7B would be used to pay off that debt. There are legal problems because potential buyers were not supposed to own any of LightSquared's debt, but that's what lawyers are for. Anyhow if Dish does go through with the purchase it looks like Charlie could make close to $1B from it.
