This is an interestingly sticky wicket if you think about it. Dish has a contract (maybe through September if that is accurate) for most Disney/ABC/ESPN channels in SD and HD. Dish lost some HD feeds, and never carried others, due to Dish disputing that they needed to pay for them. Traditional theory is that whenever the contract is up, Disney would want to negotiate for ALL of their channels on the next deal. It makes sense. So, we have been expecting that when the negotiation time comes we will be in an all-or-none scenario. But... Consider... In this particular case, Dish and Disney both have reasons (the court case) not to make a new contract on the disputed channels. Dish knows it needs ESPN and other channels, Disney knows it doesn't want to lose the millions of Dish subscribers for those channels... Meanwhile, IF Dish agrees to pay going forward for channels that it doesn't carry now, that might work against them in court... similarly, if Disney agrees to anything now, that might work against them in court too. So... we have an odd scenario where we could see a contract renewal/extension for business as usual on all existing channels BUT still no resolution for the other stuff, unless the court case comes to an amicable end by September.
