My receiver is only HDMI pass-through (Sony STR-DG800) so if I want the audio on my receiver (duh!) I have to also use the optical digital output to the receiver. Audio and video inputs are assignable on my receiver so when I select TV/SAT it automatically uses HDMI-2 and Optical-1. My DVD is assigned to HDMI-1 and Digital Coax-1. Those are my only two HDMI devices so it's a real nice fit for me.

Dude, you're makin' me cry. The $6.00, 6' 28AWG HDMI cable from Monoprice is identical to one sold for $70.00 on another site that will remain nameless. Digital isn't like analog. It works...or it doesn't. There isn't any signal degradation due to cable impedence or static interference. An HDMI cable run is good up to about 15 Meters. A 28 gauge six footer will work every bit as well as the overpriced Monster cable.

Speaker wire, component cable or any other type of analog connection is a different story.

No offense intended. Just next time you'll know better. Go to Monoprice.com. Good source for the Toslink digital optical cables too. Good source for any cable for that matter. They're the best I've seen.

I apologize if it seemed we jumped on you. Not intended. There are few things that will bring out the flamethrowers faster around here than a mention of the "M" word. Again, apologies if we came off harsh.

It's great that they are including them now. My box didn't come with one but the installer provided one when he saw my TV had an HDMI input.

The one I got last weekend came with an HDMI cable, though I didn't use it. I had spend 12 bucks for one from Monoprice. Get a Monoprice.

All of the new HD boxes should have HDMI cable inside. Those will have the HDMI sticker on box. If the box is provided by installer, all installers must provide the HDMI if it is not in the box. D* provides all HSPs with the extra cables to compensate for those without. It is not an option.

Thanks! :D I'm going to need to get a new HDMI cable when I rearrange the family room as the 6' one will be too short, unfortunately. I wasn't looking forward to signing over another paycheck for a 12' monster cable!! :nono:
