My receiver is only HDMI pass-through (Sony STR-DG800) so if I want the audio on my receiver (duh!) I have to also use the optical digital output to the receiver. Audio and video inputs are assignable on my receiver so when I select TV/SAT it automatically uses HDMI-2 and Optical-1. My DVD is assigned to HDMI-1 and Digital Coax-1. Those are my only two HDMI devices so it's a real nice fit for me. Dude, you're makin' me cry. The $6.00, 6' 28AWG HDMI cable from Monoprice is identical to one sold for $70.00 on another site that will remain nameless. Digital isn't like analog. It works...or it doesn't. There isn't any signal degradation due to cable impedence or static interference. An HDMI cable run is good up to about 15 Meters. A 28 gauge six footer will work every bit as well as the overpriced Monster cable. Speaker wire, component cable or any other type of analog connection is a different story. No offense intended. Just next time you'll know better. Go to Monoprice.com. Good source for the Toslink digital optical cables too. Good source for any cable for that matter. They're the best I've seen.
