When I called to sign up, the guy told me I can save $4 by going with the dvr advantage. He said the programming would be $52.99 - 3.98 rebate (or something like that. But I told him I want the top 250 and online the dvr advantage package is not the same as the top 250. It is the same when I use the dishbuilder, it asks if I want to sign up for the dvr advantage after I have selected the top 250, and it saves $4/month.

Can someone explain this to me. I want the top 250 but wouldn't mind saving the $4/month.

DVR Advantage is America's Top 200, local channels, and DVR fee all rolled into one. The $3.98 is saved for signing an 18-month commitment and enrolling in AutoPay. I believe you can get AT250 programming for $10 more a month.

The dvr advantage will still save you 3.98 if you go for the top 250 pack - I think they just consider it a "Premium" package. Here is what I get billed for the top 250 with locals and HD:

DISHDVR ADVANTAGE, YOU SAVED $3.98! 49.99
    DISHHD WITH 1 PREMIUM PACKAGE 30.00 ($20 hd & $10 for T250)
    LEASED RECEIVER FEE 6.00

    Account Charges $ 85.99

    Hope this helps.

It's not if you go for the 250 pack, you get the $3.98 savings regardless. The default programming is AT200. :)

True, that's why I put the details at the bottom showing that T250 costs $10 more.

Cool. Your post just made it sound like you get the $3.98 savings only if you go for the AT250. That's all. :)

Thanks, I did a chat session and she sort of explained it that way. Although she said new customers have an option to do no contract regardless of programming choice, it just costs $49.99 more up front. couple other cool things about the dvr advantage, price garanteed until Jan 2009, all movie packages are $10, and you can add top 250 programing for $10 like you said, not to mention the 3.98 savings.

My costs are listed like yours except there is no leased receiver fee, but a dvr fee of 5.98. Here is my cost from dishbuilder for top 250 w/ dvr advantage & confirmed by the chat session.

    Dish DVR advantage $49.01
    dish HD $20
    mail in rebate -$20
    additional fee (locals) $5
    DVR fee $5.98

    total 59.99 for 10 months, 79.99 thereafter.

Movie packages are $10 with DVR Advantage? Really?

Oh, I see. Movie packs are $10 each after the first one. IOW, 2 or more packs are $10 each.

No, from what she told me, the first one is also $10. I confirmed this by choosing starz and it added $10 (but also subtracted $10 because first 3 months are free).

Maybe that's a promo for new subs (like the 3 free months). As a current subscriber, each movie pack is $12.99 each, besides HBO, which is $14.99.

With DishDVRAdvantage, you can get a single Premium for $10 IF you have added DishHD to the $49.99 basic. If you don't have DishHD, you can't get just one Premium for $10. If you add $10 for AT250, then you can get the Premium for $10.

http://www.dishnetwork.com/pop_ups/...ng_packages/dvr_advantage/dvr_advantage.shtml might explain better. If you add AT250 for $10, the 1st Premium is also just $10. As long as you're adding $20 to the $49.99, Premiums are $10 each. If you drop DishHD and AT250 in DishBUILDER, the 1st Premium is more (but still credited back to zero for three months).

Same rules apply to existing customers with DishDVRAdvantage. If you add $20 for DishHD, then HBO is only $10.

I'll have to check into it further. Thanks CABill. :)

When I had the chat I told the CSR I was a DVR Advantage customer, but did not mention that I had HD as well. I figured he'd notice that in my account. He quoted Showtime as $12.99. The interactive ordering on the 622 also said $12.99.

I'll call later to see if I get a different answer.

Maybe. They sent me a winback certificate today worth $25 extra off my bill, and includes all the new customer promotions. So a total of $225 including the rebates. The new deal anounced so far only includes free HD for 6 months, or $120 off. I guess I can take my chances or wait.

To confirm: I called them and asked how much Showtime would be adding it to my current subscription, and the CSR told me $12.99. Only when I brought up that I had DVR Advantage and DishHD and heard that it would be $10 did she say that's correct. So was she going to charge $12.99 if I never mentioned it? :sure:

Anyway, we're now set up to watch Big Brother: After Dark for the next 3 months or so.
