Can you not just tell DirecTV that if the installer shows up with something other than the H*24 that you'll refuse the installation?

You can. People do. It is outside the terms of service, though, and no matter what you tell a CSR, it makes no difference. They have diddly-squat power in assigning receivers.

There have been reports of DirecTV telling customers they don't want their business because of multiple occurances of of sending a tech away. A non-install costs them money. It's also a hell of a way to start a business relationship. DirecTV has their hearts system where they track stuff like this. If you need a free install or a free DVR down the road, how good of a customer you are to DirecTV does seem to come in play. I personally have found a customer that doesn't cost them money gets more free stuff.

I'd avoid it if I was you.

I actually refused the Installation with DirecTV as a new customer back in August and then through this website found out SOlid Signal can set up new customers and I got set up about 3 weeks ago with (2) HR24's. I should see the credits for my equipment tomorrow.

Very happy I got equipment I wanted and the extra DVR space

How do they handle the free equipment? Do you pay up front and then get a bill credit? Is it a rebate so you get the cash back?

Thanks for the update, gss1537. I was wondering what happened. It's great this worked out. Having Solid Signal as an installation alternative is huge.

So can existing customers, take advantage of deals? On the directv website, I am eligible for a HD DVR for 99.00.

Yea, if you order it off the website. You can also get free HD for 24 months, and other perks/credits...just keep reading this board and follow along with the perks threads. I have free HD, free Redzone. Got my parents $20 off each month of Sunday Ticket, and free HD. Anyone can get 3 free months of Showtime...

Any promotions offered for existing customers are handled by DIRECTV™ themselves. The advantage of dealing with us is that we sell you new receivers, not refurbished. And we can guarantee you get the latest receivers such as HR24's and H24's.

So, you are saying that if one is eligible to buy a HD DVR for $99 thru Directv, you can't get it via Solid Signal.

    Just want to make sure.

You can get the receiver through us, but not at the promotional price of $99 that is being offered to some existing customers by DIRECTV™
