Are you sure it's using the eSATA drive and not your internal hard drive?

yes because the internal has stuff as well....

the external has about 58% full but after reseting, it appears empty...

If its the Free Agent seagate, then there is your reason, they are crap and overheat.

I've been using a 750 GB Seagate Freeagent Pro since we first got the HR20 about 4 months ago. About 2 weeks after getting the HR20 and Freeagent all recorded shows on the Freeagent disappeared. I don't remember if there was a reset, and I don't think it coincided with a software update. At that point I was pretty nervous about the reliability of my setup (HR20 + Freeagent), but since then we've had no problems, thankfully. Keeping our fingers crossed...

i've got the FAP + HR20 and running good for 2 months. but i agree the FAP runs hot, so i added 2 small external fans which keeps it cool to the touch. i am nervous about losing everything some day though. i think we all are. i've done resets without issue and nervous whenever there's a software update. but so far so good. not that any of this helps the original poster, just sharing the info

I just had everything erased on my Seagate DB35 with and Antec enlosure. I'm thinking about just replacing the internal drive with my 750GB and eliminating ESATA.
