Well if you know anything about computers and adding drive space to them on the fly, you'll see that it is not a trivial task to do. You're asking for the device to automatically expand the partition that stores the streams(shows), and create an on the fly disk array. It's not a trivial thing to do on any OS AFAIK.

Or there is another approach - EHD by dish, what allow you to move recordings from internal drive to EHDs, keep on it, and play from it.

Why do you assume that the software needs to appear on a single device.

If you know anything about software you know its not that difficult to query two sources and display a single result set. When you save an item you check the diskspace first and save to the drive with space.

We've been asking that question for years. TiVos can do it. Don't know why D* can't. Just another thing that would help that they ignore.

    BTW...updating my eSATA issue.

Since deleting the Spongebob recording series, AND...I repeat AND turning my Free Agent Xtreme over to sit on its side as in the picture on the box, it is running quiet and no restarts. I even had a power outage, the UPS kept the HR20-700 going for a while, but eventually it shut down as well. Upon the resumption of power, without any help from me, everything came up like it should...the HR20-700 and the eSATA drive working/communicating.

HR20-700 rebooted overnight, meaning that the signal from the FreeAgent Extreme was lost or locked up. Will be pulling the drive out of its case and putting it into a better enclosure.

Gotta give you props for trying. I didn't think putting it in the upright position would make any difference. I don't understand why they continue to put those stands in the boxes. Every HDD manufacturer I've talked to (not that many, really) has recommended laying the enclosures flat. One of the big things that scares me about putting them upright is that they become easy to knock over. Lost an FAP because I inadvertently knocked it over.
