What file system should I use on my external hard drive for my 622? Does it matter? Right now I have a 320GB external I was using for DIVX movies on my DVD player which required me to set it up with FAT32.

If you'll search here you'll find - it doesn't matter.

The DVR will format the drive no matter what you put on it.

Fat32 and NTFS are files systems commonly used by windows. 622/722 does not use windows and therefore the drive format is not NTFS or Fat32. Like scooper said, when you plug it in the 622/722 formats the whole drive for archival use. The EHD cannot be shared between a 622/722 and another computer.

The key is to get a single drive external USB 2.0 drive that is 750GB or less.

The 622/722 will reformat the drive to it's own format. If there is some sort of software on the external drive that prevents this reformat then the drive will not be able to be used with the 622/722.

Format of the EHD has been descibed - Linux EXT3.
There is no such "some sort of software" what will prevent reformatting by 622/722. It will do it regardless "software".

Unfortunately there are manufacturers that don't give full access to the drive. Which is why E* doesn't guarantee that every drive will work.

If you mean HDD FW, then yes; but not that partitioning or SW what they drop for users.

OK now, easy killer.... don't get mad because the Steelers couldn't follow through on a guarantee (sorry THAT was too easy).

Just so you know I wanted them to win too!

I only asked cuz my DVD player which has USB needed external HD's to be in FAT32, and since I am going to use that HD for the 622, just wanted to know if I had to reformat. I got my answer already. Thanks
