How about Count Five, "Psychotic Reaction". This one got to the top ten and the band never repeated on the charts. If I recall correctly they were originally on the Double Shot label, an interesting name for a one hit label for a one hit band.

Heard Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners tonight, always liked that one.

Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum is another good one. Guess his name didn't sound enough like a rock stars to have another hit. :)

Eve of Destruction by Barry Mcguire (I think)

Something in the Air by Thunderclap Newman. Tom Petty covered it on his Greatest Hits. He must have thought the original was good because he copied it almost exactly.

The Robbs... Race With The Wind (playing here at this moment). Three brothers who went on to be very successful recording engineers and producers of other artists at their Cherokee Studios in LA http://www.cherokeestudios.com/main.html . I met Lionel Richie their a few years back when he was working with Diana Ross on a duo album. I was there with a friend who worked there and Lionel just walked in and said hi. I had no idea who he was at the time. I thought he was a staff person. :D

The Chambers Brothers - The Time Has Come Today. A 15 or so minute song cut to 4+ for the single.
A former black gospel/soul group who hired a white drummer and went psychedelic. They had several rocky/funky hits on the black charts, but this one made the crossover. It is heard on many advertisements to this day.

To wake up an old thread....
The Edwin Hawkins Singers "Oh Happy Day" (1969)
The only black gospel choral group to make the Top 10.
In 1979 I had the pleasure of doing a location recording session with this group in a live concert setting. The Edwin Hawkins singers and rhythm section were accompanied by a background choir of approx. 500 singers from the various black churches in the Twin Cities area. The audience of about 1500 might just as well have been in the choir also. Amazing energy and great fun.

Ky Bill... Some good stuff there....
I saw her as the opening act for Electric Light Orchestra at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. This is an approx. 1200 seat thrust stage performing arts theater. She STOLE the show from ELO. What a great performance.
I have the 5:45 version. I suspect this is the long one, but if not let me know.

    To continue:
American Breed - Bend Me Shape Me.
Blues Image - Ride Captain Ride (featured Mike Pinera who went on to Iron Butterfly and Jo Lala who became an in demand studio drummer/percussionist in, where else, LaLa land.) :D

Great song. Bobby Fuller was murdered soon after this became a hit. The murder was never solved.

    On a similar theme:
    R. Dean Taylor - Indiana Wants Me.

I never knew that, thanks for the info, really sad, isn't it.

I cant believe forgot about that one! I've always wondered, does the R stand for anything in particular?

Also like Chrispin St Peters with The Pied Piper

3 More of my favs are the teenage tragedy songs of the late 50s early 60s.

    Teen Angel - ???
Last Kiss- Jay Frank and The Caviliers
    Tell Laura I Love Her - ???

Favorite '2 hit' wonders have to be Danny and The Juniors with At The Hop and Rock and Roll is Here To Stay, and Sam the Sham with Wully Bully and Li'l Red Ridinghood

Another one, I don't know if it would be considered a one hit wonder or not is Don Mclean- American Pie. I wouldnt consider him a one his wonder it's just I think American Pie was such a huge hit, commemerating Ritchie, Buddy and the Big Bopper, Mclean was never able to top that. Just a specualtion. Mclean will be in town Thursday for a free concert, if it wasnt all the way in downtown Buffalo, I would go see him.

Another awsome band, The Royal Guardsmen, with the Snoopy adventures. No doubt Snoopy V The Red Baron was the biggest hit, which some might consider them to be a one hit wonder, there was the Follow up song The Return of The Red Baron, the Christmas follow up, Snoopys Christmas and other Snoopy songs, Snoopy For President and Smallest Astronaut. I have their CD, (yes folks CD :D ) Anthology.
So many wonderful one hit wonder from that generation!

    Uncle Kracker with Follow Me.
Man, all of his other songs are messed up, but that one is more mellow an actually makes sence.
