Whoa, was she lucky; She sure didn't just graze the pole!
And, just a few miles from me, a definite fire scare for a while.

Up to 14000 acres now, with at least one person missing

If the winds shift and start pushing it east it definitely could but it is not an issue yet. You also have the Horsetooth Reservoir between the fire and the city

Just reading some articles on the situation in both Colorado and New Mexico. The AP article gives numbers that are just scary:

Looking at the Reuters wrap-up article tonight looks a bit discouraging for firefighers:
The National Interagency Fire Center also reports fires in Idaho and Nevada, six in Alaska, and one each in Arkansas and North Carolina.

When I started doing a yearly thread California was on fire. Right now we have no uncontained fires. It rained yesterday in my part of the State. Feeling awful lucky right now.

Denver was 104 yesterday and supposed to be over 100 every day until Thursday. I have lived in Colorado for 35 years and don't remember seeing this many fires. There were 8 active fires in the state Saturday.

This is crazy with the entire town of Manitou Springs evacuated (5000 people) High Park was already the most destructive fire in Colorado history with 191 structures lost (at last report) and now having jumped containment it could challenge Hayman as the largest fire in Colorado history

The fire is solidly in western Colorado Springs, Tens of thousands of people evacuated

A personal note, years ago I lived in Colorado Springs. See where Fillmore st is at the lower right area. Go about a mile SE from where the map ends and that is where I lived.

Wow this is sad. I lived there from 91-93 in Glen Eagle, north of this area and east of I-25.

They said the flying W ranch and surrounding neighborhood was burnt to the ground. It sounded like it was a rather well established tourist place. I havent been to Co Springs since 1967 so I didnt ring any bells.
