It's a bit late for that - The government and it's agencies control EVERY aspect of this industry. It is as regulated as you can possibly get and with good reason.
Without it this industry would self destruct - just like all private businesses left to their own devices and corporate greed.

    Yeah...that's it.

We have no other choices for providers, so we need to government to control prices and programming

We have to have TV so we need to government to control it.

Competition does not work without the government controlling "greed"

    Yeah....that's it.

Absolutely. You never heard of collusion.

Corporations working in an unregulated society will implode.

There is NOT a single industry in this country that is unregulated.

Competition works just fine if you like monloithic "Wal-Mart" corporations owning the entire industry - swallowing any competition - leaving you with exactly NO competition.

    Just gigantic monopolies.

Yeah - that would be just wonderful.

I would hope our government has more important things that need attention than channel counts. It's only a hope, however, as history shouldn't give me much optimism.:)

Will you share some of what you're smoking with the rest of us? "Like all private businesses" is a bit of a reach.

Oh, and just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Don't look now, but Walmart did that a long time ago. Look at any small town that got a Walmart 10, 20, 30 years ago. Who's regulating Walmart? To my untrained eye it appears no one.

As I illustrated on Friday, that is not the case. If they counted the same way D* counts, they would be at 75 channels. They count gamse only RSNs as a full time HD channel, D* does not. They count VOD as a HD channel, D* does not. That's how they get to 118, but they're really at 75 if using the same conservative counting methods.

I too prefer to see a bunch of smaller mom and pop stores than walmart, but that does not mean walmart needs to be regulated. People choose to go to walmart and support them with their wallets. There prices are low due to competition and their size, not due to regulation.

They are only doing this due to greed. They do not really want to give customers what they want. They don't care about the very people that are giving them money for something these people do not need at all.

Sorry, but reason and equity have NOTHING to do with advertising. Just watch a few car commercials to see that.

I don't know what world you live in but...WalMart IS regulated.
From City Ordinances to Federal Law......From the SEC to Advertising Regulations....From Health Laws to Minimum Wage Laws....From Immigration Laws to Anti- Discrimination Law....From what they can and can't sell to when they can and can't sell it.

If that is Unregulated then you have a different opinion of it than me.
