... could I recommend a CE type of push? The reason I'm asking is because we seem to be having issues with lockups. It might be helpful to actually watch the upgrade occur the first time to see if we are running into any common issues. The ones after that could probably be sent automatically. Thoughts?

Not sure what the difference would be... Can you explain a little more?

I guess having eyes watching to see how well it downloads would be the biggest thing. Instead of waking up to a failed download or another issue, we'd all be together watching to make sure the first download went well and be available for those who's own boxes didn't upgrade so well.

Only downside is that perhaps a person or two might not be around during the window and would be on a different release. Perhaps they could just give us a heads up on when it will download so we can all be home when they push it? I agree it would be adventageous to be there when the new version comes down, whether it's pushed or not.

That would work too. Just trying to help those guys out as much as possible because they trusted us with this equipment to test and use. Anything they need from me can be considered a done deal. Even the wife is on board with that.

It would seem they would want the units to be monitored during the first download. I'd make myself available for it as well, but I don't have one, *hint* *cough* *hint* *cough* . :( ;) :D :p

    In due time.

A start would be to subscribe to Earl's "Software Updates" thread in the stickies at the top of the forum. At least you would know when the push is coming if you get the email in time. I agree it might help to be here when it happens, at least the first time or so.

I signed up when I saw the thread, I'm just hoping they're not planning on pushing the first code at 2am!

I saw on the H21 board that they had an "extended" window for an H21 CE. I'd suspect you could find the same thing here.

But is the software ready? I suspect that there are a number of separate stability-related issues being worked on, hence the prediction of next week.

If you want to get automated notifications of firmware updates via my monitoring system, you can sign up for my mailing list. You should follow Earl's direction on whether or not to force the download or receive it as a version push (VP).

I have two additional mailing lists that are run as well. By creating this new list, the HR21-700 firmware will no longer be included in the generic 'other' list.

HR20-700 - firmware update notification for the HR20-700
HR21-700 - firmware update notification for the HR21-700
other - firmware update notification for all other recievers

Please be aware that these lists are active 24-hours per day and occasionally you will get bombarded with messages. The 'other' list is by far the most active mailing list.
