:yesman: Great post. Not only will your bill not go down, but it's also still going to go up in the spring. Just like it does every year.

Im angry about this situation, don't get me wrong... but let's attempt to gain some perspective here. Vs is not the Fox family of channels. At the time it was yanked, Vs had precious little in the way of content and was a low rated station. The only thing Vs really had going for it at the time was NHL - and all due respect to my NHL fan friends - that simply wasn't enough. FX has a very large entertainment programming portfolio both in terms of highly rated syndicated content as well as highly rated, crtically acclaimed original programming. On top of that - they now feature College Football, and coming soon UFC content. This is NOT a Vs situation.

Same B.S. they did with Dish Network several months back. Charlie ponied up and so will Direct. Sucks for my sales though.

With a 40% increase, I really don't see myself paying $18/month for the Sports Pack on top of other premiums that are bound for increase due to their additions earlier this year.

Since I am on D*'s side on carriage disputes, the most I would do is suspend my account after the Super Bowl should things drag out that far. (EDIT: I really don't have a use for the Sports Pack at that time of year)

ESPN is also due for a new deal as well around year's end, I have a gut feeling that this will get uglier by the day.

Excellent point. FX was the 12th highest rated cable channel of 2010. Versus wishes they were.

And since then, they've kept improving their content, even adding college football this season. These Fox networks produce a ton of high quality content, which is why it's unreasonable to blindly take DirecTV's side on this. Not to say anyone should jump to Fox's side either. But both sides have very legitimate concerns.

In fact - Directv does not have a history of EVER going dark on a portfolio of channels like the ones being discussed. Yeah they yanked Vs and they dropped G4 but can anyone point to any other example where a table stakes set of networks was lost for any length of time off of Directv?

You can get away with going dark on Vs and pulling the plug on G4, and maybe even temporarily going dark on a local network affiliance for a short period of time - but does anyone truly believe that Directv can actually run a business if they start pulling the most popular channels off of their lineup permanently? That would strike at the very core of their value proposition.

The only deal breaker for most people is Fox News Channel. If they drop FNC, you would see a mass exodus from DTV.

And no, they won't agree to watch MSNBC instead.

Out of those FX is about the only one I watch, and since Wilfred & Louie are done for the season, and they just cancelled Memphis Blues, I won't miss it.

I'm glad we have someone here who can speak for most people. Are there any other things about most people that you can tell us?

You're both right, IMO. It would be stupid for DirecTV to drop these channels all together...especially FX. There's some channels, mainly the top 20, that are to popular to drop, and FX ranks in that group.

    Great point, tulanejosh. :righton:

They might let them go dark for a weekend, just to show some cajones, but taking channels like these off the lineup for any significant amount of time would be a big change for DirecTV.

It would be incredibly stupid. And I don't think DirecTV is nearly stupid enough to drop a channel like FX for an extended period of time. But even dropping them on Nov. 1 is a rather dumb move. Leave that dumb crap to Dish. If Fox is negotiating in good faith, leave the channels up. If they're not, take legal action.
